On April 30, 2024, the Intermediate People's Court of Yantai City, Shandong Province, publicly pronounced a verdict in the first instance of the bribery case of Sun Mingliang, former deputy secretary and deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Weifang Municipal People's Congress, and sentenced the defendant Sun Mingliang to 11 years in prison and a fine of RMB 1 million for accepting bribes;
After trial, it was ascertained that from before the Spring Festival in 2007 to before the Spring Festival in 2021, the defendant Sun Mingliang took advantage of his position as mayor and secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Shouguang City, deputy secretary and deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Weifang Municipal People's Congress, and other positions to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in tax incentives, handling of production safety accidents, job adjustments, etc., and illegally accepted property from relevant units and individuals, totaling more than 11.66 million yuan.
The Yantai City Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Sun Mingming, as a state functionary, took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others, and illegally accepted property from others on several occasions, the amount of which was particularly huge, and his conduct constituted the crime of accepting bribes. In view of the fact that after he was brought into the case, he truthfully confessed most of the facts of accepting bribes that the investigating organs had not yet grasped, which constituted a confession, and all the stolen money and fruits had been recovered and returned to the case, and he was given a lighter punishment in accordance with law. Where they admit guilt and accept punishment, they may be given a lenient disposition in accordance with law. The Court accordingly rendered the judgment.
