In 1937, Su Zhenhua served as a captain at the Yan'an Anti-Japanese Military and Political University, and organized students to study together with political commissar Hu Yaobang.
A high-achieving student named Meng Wei attracted the attention of Su Zhenhua, she was smart and studious, good at singing and dancing, and lively and active, and was the best among the many female students of Kang University.
