Ono, a 59-year-old Japanese man caught secretly filming women's skirts in Orchard Central, Singapore, was arrested and charged with five counts, including voyeurism, insulting women's dignity and violating the film law.
Ono, a permanent resident of Singapore, pleaded guilty in court on April 25, 2024.
The incident took place in 2021 when a couple was shopping at the store and found Ono stalking them. The man noticed that Ono's phone camera was facing outward, and after observing for a while, he confronted Ono. When the police arrived at the scene, they found that Ono was secretly filming the buttocks of a woman standing in front of the couple and captured the legs of the man's girlfriend in the video.

Further police investigation revealed that between 2019 and 2021, he secretly photographed at least 34 victims, taking a total of 124 upskirt photos and 8 upskirt videos. Deleted files and photos and videos stored using encryption software were also found in his phone.
In court, Ono admitted to secretly photographing women in tight-fitting sportswear, and would also save the footage of the underwear he captured. He was deeply sorry for his actions and promised not to repeat them.
Ono explained that he reflected on how he could give back to Singapore and decided to donate money to charity. He also mentioned that hair symbolizes desire, and if you have hair, you will have the idea of cutting and dyeing your hair, so he shaves his head every day to reflect on himself and subtract desire.

He also revealed that Singapore National Day is celebrated every year, and the Singapore national anthem is sung to express his love for Singapore, hoping that the judge will be lenient.
