It's understandable for colleges and universities to be concerned about the safety of their students, but they don't have to be disciplined in everything.

According to reports, with the May Day holiday approaching, some colleges and universities issued notices for student safety reasons, strictly prohibiting the organization of outings in the name of classes and colleges, and also opposing students to organize rentals and group tours on their own. At the same time, many schools advise students to "travel with family and friends".

With the May Day holiday approaching, many college students have made travel plans, including traveling with high school classmates, college classmates or roommates. However, many colleges and universities in China issued notices before the May Day holiday, strictly prohibiting college students from organizing group trips in the name of classes and colleges, and also opposing students from organizing group trips on their own.

It is not difficult to understand that the main purpose of these universities is to ensure the safety of students. However, as soon as the notice was issued, it sparked heated discussions among all parties, including college students from these schools, including many voices of doubt and opposition.

The reason is also very simple, college students are adults who have reached the age of 18, and they have the ability to be independent for many things, and they also have the ability to face and solve problems. If these universities even have to manage who college students go out to travel, it is not only a sign of too lenient management, but also treat college students as children.

It is normal for college students to take advantage of the holidays to go out and travel with friends, classmates, roommates, etc., who have a good time. This will also leave them with many good memories of their youth, and at the same time increase their affection for each other.

For such feelings, university administrators should understand and support, and do a good job of corresponding safety education and reminders, instead of "one-size-fits-all" prohibition in the name of safety.

For young people over the age of 18, who can drive with a driver's license and operate machinery and work with relevant qualifications, there is really no reason for universities to worry about their travel safety.

Moreover, if an adult is treated as a child, how can he have an independent personality, life experience, and the ability to take care of himself? Furthermore, some colleges and universities have imposed a ban on all aspects of college students, down to bed curtains, takeouts, and even traveling, so what is the legal basis for restricting an adult's normal behavior?

It is necessary for colleges and universities to remind college students to pay attention to the safety of travel during the holidays, but it is enough to fulfill the obligation of reminder and notification, rather than "one-size-fits-all" ban. Otherwise, such a ban is more like a kind of "disclaimer".

What makes people laugh and cry is that just when some colleges and universities prohibit college students from traveling in groups, other universities in China have issued notices, advocating that students go out in groups, do not travel alone, and do not go out with unfamiliar people.

This shows that domestic colleges and universities are still ambivalent about the problem of college students traveling, which will inevitably make college students a little confused.

It is worth noting that many young people like to explore, but they lack safety awareness and rule awareness. Some college students have turned into "travel friends" and traveled to some undeveloped "wild spots", and there have been repeated incidents of being trapped.

Therefore, compared with prohibiting college students from traveling in groups, it is better to advocate college students to travel together, and at the same time do a good job in traveling safety education and reminders, so as to effectively protect the personal safety of college students.

In the final analysis, it is understandable for colleges and universities to pay attention to the safety of college students, and it is also a manifestation of due diligence, but it is not necessary to uphold strict management thinking in everything, which may not be able to get the safety they want, and it will also make college students detach from society and lose the opportunity for experience and growth.

With the May Day holiday approaching, some colleges and universities issued notices for the sake of student safety, strictly prohibiting the organization of travel in the name of classes and colleges, and also opposing students to organize car rentals and group tours on their own. At the same time, many schools advise students to "travel with family and friends".

According to the website of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, the Student Affairs Department (Office) of Lanzhou Jiaotong University issued a notice on April 25 on the management of student safety education during the 2024 Labor Day holiday, stating that the school opposes students to organize car rentals, group tours or bicycle trips. It is strictly forbidden for students to contact individuals or private vehicles to charter a bus to return home or travel.

On April 26, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Chengdu University of Technology issued the "Notice on Strengthening the Safety Work of Students" May Day Holiday ", proposing that no one shall organize students to go out for sightseeing and tourism (including various forms of self-guided tours) in the name of the collective for any reason.

Although some colleges and universities do not prohibit group tours organized by students, they strictly restrict the return to campus on the same day. Xi'an University of Science and Technology's "Several Regulations on Student Travel (Trial)" stipulates that the group travel activities organized by students shall not be less than five people, and must be declared to the college, and can only be carried out after approval, and the organizer is responsible for safety work. Counselors and college leaders should be approved according to the conditions of proximity, simplicity, safety and risk-free. All travelers must abide by the rules that they are not allowed to stay overnight, return to school before 10 p.m. on the same day, and bear their own responsibility.

In March 2019, the School of Information Science and Engineering of Shandong University issued the "Regulations on Regulating the Organization of Outing Activities by Student Cadres", which also made specific provisions for students' temporary group tours: in the name of the collective (including in the name of grades, classes, dormitories, temporary groups, and various grass-roots departments of college-level student institutions) to organize students to go out for internships, travel, and activities, including organizing such activities during holidays, must apply to the relevant counselors or teachers in charge in advance, and the activity plan must be reported for review in advance. Temporary groups initiated by ordinary students shall also be handled in accordance with these provisions. For the above-mentioned group activities, except for the special approval of the college leaders, the team must be led by the teacher, and if there is no teacher to lead the group, the group must be organized through a qualified travel company designated by the college, and the group must have a written agreement, and the agreement must be approved by the teacher.

The Paper noted that at present, some colleges and universities strictly restrict students from traveling in groups on their own, and some colleges and universities advocate that students travel in groups when they go out and do not travel alone. On April 26 this year, the Student Affairs Department of Peking University advised students to "travel with family and friends" in the "Safety Tips for the May Day Holiday". The School of Optoelectronics of Beijing Institute of Technology also reminded on April 25 that students on long-distance journeys should try to travel in groups, and it is recommended not to go out alone or with unfamiliar people.

Zhumadian Vocational and Technical College in Henan Province has required on April 23 that students must inform their relatives when they go out, stay abroad and travel, and they must go out together when they travel, and they must not travel alone or meet unfamiliar netizens. Anhui Polytechnic University also made a "May Day Holiday Safety Tips", saying that travel does not act alone. Chongqing University of Technology issued a notice on April 24 to guide education students to travel together when they go out.

In addition, other colleges and universities advocate that students will be active on campus during the May Day holiday. On April 23, Lanzhou Institute of Technology stated in the "Notice on Doing a Good Job in the Safety and Stability of Students Before and After the Labor Day Holiday" that it is strictly forbidden for any organization or individual to organize students to go out for collective travel, participate in commercial celebrations, performances and other activities;
