According to the information released by the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau, the preliminary research determined that the tornado intensity was level 3, which was a strong tornado with a moving distance of about 1 km. The Meteorological Station of Liangtian Village, about 2.8 km away from the site of the tornado, recorded a maximum gust of 20.6 m/s (Category 8).
After the disaster, Guangzhou City and Baiyun District quickly set up six working groups, including a rescue team, an emergency repair team, an aftermath support group, and an order maintenance group, to initiate emergency response, and dispatched medical care, public security, traffic police, fire protection, housing and construction departments, as well as town and village personnel, to carry out investigation, search and rescue in full coverage.
