In addition to Heilongjiang and Tibet, as of now, the population data of China's 29 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in 2023 has been released, and the list of provinces with a population of over 100 million has been officially announced. Among them, Guangdong and Shandong, with a total population of 127 million and 101 million respectively, have entered the era of large provinces with a population of more than 100 million.

From the perspective of total population, Guangdong, as the largest province in Chinese, has a population of more than 127 million, and the total population has ranked first for many years. Shandong's population has reached 101 million, which is 26 million different from Guangdong's population of 127 million.

From the perspective of population increase, Guangdong's permanent population will increase by 490,000 in 2023, second only to Zhejiang with 500,000 and ranking second in the country. Shandong, the province with the second largest permanent population, has become the second largest province in the country, with a decrease of 398,200 permanent residents.

In 2023, the top 10 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in terms of total population will be 127.06 million in Guangdong, 101.22 million in Shandong, 98.15 million in Henan, 85.26 million in Jiangsu, 83.68 million in Sichuan, 73.93 million in Hebei, 66.27 million in Zhejiang, 65.68 million in Hunan, 61.21 million in Anhui, and 53.28 million in Hubei.

In 2023, the top 10 population increments in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) will be 500,000 in Zhejiang, 490,000 in Guangdong, 161,900 in Hainan, 125,000 in Shanghai, 110,000 in Jiangsu, 110,000 in Xinjiang, 90,000 in Guizhou, 18,000 in Beijing, 10,000 in Tianjin, and 10,000 in Ningxia. This shows that there is a large difference in population growth between the North and the South.

In 2023, the top 10 list of population increment decreases in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) will be 570,000 in Henan, 400,000 in Shandong, 360,000 in Hunan, 260,000 in Hebei, 265,200 in Gansu, 219,100 in Chongqing, 200,000 in Guangxi, 200,000 in Yunnan, 150,100 in Shanxi, and 150,000 in Yunnan.

The population of the southern provinces is growing rapidly, including 16 provinces including Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Hubei, Fujian, Hunan, Shanghai, Hainan, Guangxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan and Tibet. The top 10 accounted for 7 places, including Guangdong, which ranked first.

The population growth of the northern provinces is slow, including Shandong, Beijing, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Tianjin, Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai and Xinjiang. The top 10 teams occupy 3 spots, ranking 2nd, 3rd and 6th.

In 2023, the ranking of 17 cities with a population of 10 million will be Chongqing, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Tianjin, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shijiazhuang, Linling, Changsha, Dongguan, and Qingdao, indicating that the top three cities of Chongqing, Shanghai, and Beijing remain unchanged.

In 2023, there will still be 17 cities with a population of 10 million, and 14 cities with a population of 10 million in the first echelon, reaching more than 9 million. The second echelon of Changsha has a population of 10 million, reaching more than 8 million. As of April 28, 2024, the ranking of 17 10 million cities has been officially exposed.

In terms of reserve cities, the first echelon cities are Harbin, Hefei, Wenzhou, Ningbo, Foshan, Nanjing, Nanyang, Jinan, Weifang, Shenyang, Handan, Changchun, Baoding and Xuzhou. The second echelon cities are Ganzhou, Quanzhou, Kunming, Zhoukou, Heze, Fuzhou, Jining and Fuyang.

The top 10 ranking of the 17 cities with an increase in population of 10 million are Hefei, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi'an, and Dongguan, followed by Suzhou, Wuhan, Qingdao, Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and Chongqing. Among them, the municipality directly under the central government is Beijing, Shangyujin.

From the perspective of urban agglomerations and regional locations with a population of 10 million, the three cities in the Yangtze River Delta are Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou, the three cities in the Greater Bay Area are Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Dongguan, the three cities in the Beijing-Tianjin Wing are Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang, and the two cities in Chengdu and Chongqing are Chongqing and Chengdu.
