According to Thai media reports, on April 25, Thailand's Fifth Crime Suppression Division, together with the Phuket Katu Police and staff of relevant departments, arrested a 61-year-old Israeli man, Zuri Yozee, and seized three protected animals guinea tails. When they were found, the three guinea tails were in cages and were very weak.
Prior to the operation, the police learned through investigation that a foreign businessman was raising guinea tails in a house in Kathu town, and then the police applied to the court for a search warrant to search the house and successfully arrested the Israeli man involved.
After his arrest, Zuri Yozee confessed to the police that he had indeed kept three guinea-tailed monkeys without a permit, but he claimed that he had no prior knowledge that a permit was required to keep them. Zuri Yozee has been temporarily held at the Kathu police station and faces up to five years in prison and a fine of not more than 500,000 baht.
The police also revealed that Zuri Yozee is an Israeli who does business in Phuket Patong and is well-known in the local area because he has worked in Patong for many years. The three guinea-tailed monkeys he kept were confiscated and handed over to the Phang Nga Wildlife and Botanical Garden for resettlement.
