Taking colorectal cancer as an example, surgery is the main way to treat the disease, but the unavoidable problem in clinical practice is that the postoperative anastomosis heals poorly, which can easily cause anastomotic leakage and affect the patient's postoperative recovery. In response to this pain point, Dean Cai Xiujun's team spent more than ten years inventing a series of degradable stents and creating "stent intestinal transfer", which protected the anastomosis after low rectal cancer surgery and avoided secondary retraction surgery. This technology breaks the traditional surgery that has been used in the world for nearly 170 years, greatly improves the prognosis and future quality of life of patients, and has been successfully applied to nearly 1,000 patients in many hospitals across the country.
