According to the latest report released by Canalys on April 26, in the first quarter of 2024, the smartphone market in Chinese mainland recovered for the first time in two years, and shipments were the same as the same period last year, reaching 67.7 million units. Among them, Huawei has experienced 13 quarters to regain the first place in the Chinese mainland market, with 11.7 million units shipped and a market share of 17% thanks to the enthusiastic market response of the Mate and nova series.

The Oppo Reno 11 series performed well, helping it quickly jump to second place, with 10.9 million units shipped.

On the other hand, Honor, Vivo, and Apple slowed down after aggressive shipments in the fourth quarter of last year, ranking third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Honor ranked third with 10.6 million units shipped, up 9% year-on-year, Vivo followed with 10.3 million units, down 9% year-on-year, and Apple saw the biggest decline among the top five manufacturers, ranking fifth with 10 million units shipped, down 25% year-on-year.

On April 25, according to the latest quarterly mobile phone tracking report released by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the continued recovery of market demand helped China's smartphone market continue the rebound momentum at the end of last year, and the market performance was higher than expected. Thanks to the good market performance of manufacturers such as Honor and Huawei, the overall Android market increased by 9.3% year-on-year.

According to Counterpoint's weekly report on mobile phone sales, China's smartphone sales increased by 1.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, achieving positive year-on-year growth for the second consecutive quarter. Huawei stood out among all mobile phone brands in the first quarter, with a year-on-year increase of 69.7%. Much of Huawei's growth is due to strong sales of its 5G-enabled Mate 60 series, as well as its own household recognition, which has seen a significant increase in its market share in the $600-plus premium segment. Despite Huawei's strong comeback that hit the rest of the market, Honor still achieved an 11.5% year-on-year growth in the first quarter, thanks to several popular models and the expansion of offline channels.

In addition, it is worth noting that Apple's sales in the first quarter fell by 19.1% year-on-year due to Huawei's comeback changing the landscape of the high-end market. It is the worst performance of the device in China since 2020.
