"Hyping up China's 'green overcapacity' is hegemonic logic"

author:CCTV News

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken began his second visit to China in office on the 24th. Before Blinken's departure, the US side was still creating "bargaining chips" for itself through the way of people familiar with the matter and the media hyping up the so-called "overcapacity theory".

However, it is obvious that the US side will not be able to rely on such "bargaining chips" to exert pressure.

Recently, many international figures have praised China's green development results.

On the 22nd local time, Amin Nasser, CEO of Saudi Aramco, the Saudi national oil company, who attended the World Energy Conference in the Netherlands, praised China's contribution in supporting the global goal of net-zero carbon emissions.

By reducing the cost of solar panels, China has provided support and assistance to the development of green industries around the world, including Western countries, including in electric vehicles, Amin Nasser said.

Jin Ruiting, a researcher at the Institute of Foreign Economic Research of the National Development and Reform Commission, pointed out in an interview with China Central Radio and Television Global Information Broadcasting that China has provided the world with cost-effective green energy products with its strong manufacturing capabilities, and has contributed to the global energy transition.

  • China's new energy vehicles, lithium batteries and photovoltaic products provided to the world have played a great role in the global energy transition.
  • At present, the mainland has built the world's largest, most complete and most competitive clean energy industry chain.
  • China's production and sales of new energy vehicles have ranked first in the world for 9 consecutive years, and the output of photovoltaic modules has ranked first in the world for 16 consecutive years. These data clearly show that China provides the world with cost-effective green energy products represented by the "new three things", and provides the world with a new choice.

Recently, American columnist David Ficklin said that the United States and many European governments are keen to exclude cost-effective Chinese green products, and this economic protectionism will delay the global energy transition. Ficklin pointed out that even if products from outside are blocked, the development of the new energy industry in the United States itself is still "sluggish".

In this regard, Jin Ruiting believes that the West's pressure on China under the so-called "production capacity issue" is not based on economic logic, but on the logic of hegemony.

  • With the growing international influence of Chinese products, some countries believe that this threatens their real interests, and the need to maintain technological and energy hegemony is bound to continue to increase pressure on China.
  • The implementation of protectionism against China in the green field is a blind and short-sighted behavior, which is not only inconsistent with the laws of the market economy, nor in line with the spirit of free trade, but only in line with the interests of a small number of people in these countries, and will cause a large gap in achieving the goal of stimulating the development of related industries, because it greatly increases the cost of industrial development.

Amin Nasser, CEO of Saudi Aramco, said at the World Energy Conference on the 22nd that if the world wants to achieve net zero emissions, it needs to be based on global cooperation.

David Ficklin also stressed in the article that to reshape the world's energy system, it is necessary to get the support of countries and international institutions, including China, the United States, Europe, etc., rather than provoking a devastating trade war.

In this regard, Jin Ruiting agreed. He believes that all countries need to work together to promote global green development and ensure that emission reduction targets are met.

  • Only when countries work together can we ensure a green and equitable global transition. Only by working together can we ensure that the goal of carbon neutrality is achieved.
  • The most important thing to build a fair, reasonable, and win-win global environmental governance system is to work together, so that we can truly achieve green, low-carbon and sustainable development and truly create a green and beautiful future.
