Stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world and the number one killer in mainland China. How to quickly identify a stroke and what are the treatments during the rehabilitation process?
In this issue, Yao Mingsong, chief physician of the Department of Neurological Rehabilitation of Zhejiang Mingzhou Rehabilitation Hospital, is invited to take you into the rehabilitation ward and pay attention to stroke rehabilitation.
01
Early symptoms of stroke appear
Prompt medical attention is key
In the early stages of stroke, there will be numbness and weakness in the arm, which usually manifests as "suddenly dropping something" or feeling insensitive in the hand, as if wearing gloves.
Some patients may also have facial asymmetry, crooked corners of the mouth, and tongue protrusion to one side.
Director Yao said that in fact, most people have a certain understanding of these manifestations of stroke, but they are often reluctant to seek medical treatment in time, thinking that the symptoms will be alleviated after a while, but this is not the case, and it is very important to seek medical treatment in time and grasp the golden rescue time of stroke.
02
The importance of hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Director Yao said that hypobaric oxygen therapy can be started after ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke are relatively stable for one week.
On the one hand, hyperbaric oxygen can make the blood flow slow, blood vessels constrict, reduce intracranial pressure, on the other hand, it can increase the oxygen content of brain cells and the partial pressure of oxygen in brain tissues, and improve cerebral hypoxia through ultra-long-distance diffusion of high-tension oxygen, so as to avoid the vicious circle of cerebral hypoxia, cerebral edema and cerebral blood flow disorder.
In addition, hyperbaric oxygen can also improve the blood flow of the vertebral artery system, increase the oxygen supply to the reticuloendothelial system and the brainstem, which is conducive to vital function activities and promotes the awakening of comatose patients.
Persistent cerebral hypoxia will bring a series of obstacles and impacts to the patient's recovery, so hyperbaric oxygen therapy is very important for the early recovery of the brain.

Stroke rehabilitation
5 major treatments
Stroke rehabilitation can be divided into exercise therapy, occupational therapy, swallowing training, breathing training, and traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation treatment.
Exercise therapy (PT) for early, middle and late stages of nerve injury and fracture, including pedaling exercise training, escalator exercise training, etc.
Occupational therapy (OT) is suitable for bedside training for nerve injury, including vocational training, life ability training, production and use of assistive devices, and other training involving fine motor skills.
Swallowing training (ST), including a series of exercises such as articulation and speech.
Breathing training (HT), including vibrating expectoration, external drainage, ventilator use, and ventilator weaning training.
TCM rehabilitation includes acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, as well as physiotherapy such as magnetotherapy, sound therapy, and light therapy.
Rehabilitation treatment with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine has a positive role in promoting the rehabilitation of stroke patients, such as magnetic therapy, which helps to reduce inflammation and relieve pain, stimulate neuromuscular excitement, and is of great significance to the recovery of limb function.
