The U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a bill requiring ByteDance to divest TikTok within the next 165 days or face a ban in the United States. The bill, which is currently under consideration in the Senate, has also been passed, and will be sent to US President Joe Biden for signature into effect.
The U.S. has never found evidence that TikTok threatens U.S. national security, but it has never stopped suppressing TikTok, and this kind of bullying behavior that cannot win in fair competition disrupts the normal business activities of enterprises, damages the confidence of international investors in the investment environment, undermines the normal international economic and trade order, and will eventually backfire on the United States itself.
In addition, TikTok's official account recently issued a statement saying that the reason for the bill to be forced through was only a ban, hoping to listen to voters and be aware of the impact on the economy, small businesses, and the 170 million Americans who use its services.
Meanwhile, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he was forming a group to try and buy TikTok and had already held talks with investors interested in the deal, but did not say which investors were involved. And TikTok's CEO Zhou Shouzi went to Washington to lobby and work hard again.
