There is no milk after giving birth, and the baby is hungry with high jaundice!

author:Lactation nutrition Wang Wenli

While doing rounds with the pediatrician, I met a mother in Kochi who had just entered the clinic.

Bao Ma knows the benefits of breastfeeding, so she strictly follows the book, and insists on not adding water milk even if she is born without milk.

Because she believes:

1. The baby comes with 3 days of rations, even if he doesn't eat or drink, there is no big problem.

2. As long as she sucks and feeds frequently, she will soon be able to have milk.

Effort always pays off, and when I met her, she was completely exclusively breastfed, without a drop of milk.

In full-term infants, 4 days after birth, the jaundice value of the detected baby is close to 14, which is a bit high, considering that there may be hunger jaundice (the cause of too little feeding), but this value is also within the normal range.

The birth weight was 3219 g, with a maximum weight loss of 280 g, which is almost 8.7% (full-term infants should be exclusively breastfed if they fall to the range of 7% of their birth weight). Although the weight in the early stage is a little more, it doesn't matter, and you can catch up with the increased feeding in the later stage.

The mother's nipple is a little short and flat, and the baby sucks more laboriously if she insists on breastfeeding.

Current Issues:

1. High jaundice;

2. Pressure to gain weight;

3. Mother's nipple problems;

Come and see, jaundice high:

The problem of physiological jaundice is really too common, insufficient feeding, and the baby's lack of discharge is the main reason. What if we find out that the baby has become a Minion?

Neonatal jaundice should be analysed dynamically and comprehensively with changes in gestational age (whether it is full-term, preterm infants are also divided into gestational age stages), age (a few days after birth), and birth weight (how heavy at birth). Also, the presence of some medical conditions in the newborn will be considered. There are too many factors that need to be weighed, and it is recommended that you follow your doctor's instructions to determine whether and how to treat it.

Physiological jaundice is high, eat more dora and strengthen feeding is the way to reduce jaundice.

At the same time, when the sun is good, it is also helpful to give the baby more sun.

Stress to gain weight:

Because of just giving birth, the mother's breast milk secretion is insufficient, the baby discharges meconium, water loss and other reasons, resulting in weight loss after birth.

But if you lose too much weight, you need to be monitored.

In our actual operation, for full-term babies who are full of moons, the target weight gain is 750-1250g for male babies and 750-1000g for female babies. And this baby has lost a lot in the early stage, so in the later feeding, you need to add some oil, feed more frequently, and let the baby eat more and for as long as possible. Strive to meet standards.

If you are feeding at home, how to determine that the baby has eaten enough? (See: Successful breastfeeding, enough milk, do not gain weight, just do these (next part))

Mom's Nipple Problems:

This mother has short and flat nipples, and it will be a little difficult for the baby to suck.

Stimulating the nipples with your hands before feeding may make some nipples protrude a little more, and some nipples will be sucked out after being sucked by your baby many times.

We can also use an ultra-thin and ultra-thin layer of nipple shield to temporarily help the baby suck on the nipple.

Short and flat nipples, and even inverted (some are pseudo-inverted) can be breastfed. Moms need to have faith in themselves. For more nipple problems, see: Do inverted, huge nipples really not affect breastfeeding?

In the process of breastfeeding, there will always be feeding problems due to external or self-factors. Don't worry, actively seek out experienced people or professionals to help.

Breastfeeding, you can do it!
