Water Margin: Golden Gunner Xu Ning (3)

After the soldiers and horses of Liangshan were recruited, although the beacon fire in the Central Plains temporarily subsided, the wolf smoke on the frontier was ignited again.

The Liao State invaded the territory of the Great Song Dynasty, burned, killed, and plundered. Song Huizong accepted Cai Jing's suggestion and issued an edict ordering Song Jiang to lead the army to the imperial border. So Song Jiang divided his troops and sent generals to conquer the north to resist Liao, and Liangshan soldiers and horses were divided into several roads, and Xu Ning, the golden gunner, was one of them.

The soldiers and horses led by Xu Ning were like tigers descending the mountain, all the way like a bamboo, pointing directly at Youzhou.

However, when the soldiers and horses led by Xu Ning arrived at Phoenix Ridge, they encountered stubborn resistance from the Liao general Yeluhu.

After a fierce battle, Yeluhu was defeated and fled to the Unicorn Mountain with the remnants, taking advantage of the steepness of the mountain to resist stubbornly.

This one-horned mountain is steep, the cliff wall is like a knife, and there is only a narrow mountain road leading to the top of the mountain.

Yeluhu defended according to the danger, and Xu Ning commanded the army to attack many times, but he could not attack the mountain, but lost a lot of men and horses.

Xu Ning looked at the Unicorn Mountain in front of him, his brows furrowed.

Song Jiang had an order that several large armies must meet under Youzhou City within ten days, and if he could not arrive on time along the way, it would affect the entire battle situation.

Xu Ning thought about it for a long time, but he was never able to find a way to break the enemy. On the one hand, he reported the military situation to the commander Song Jiang and asked for reinforcements, and on the other hand, he personally went down the mountain and visited the local people, hoping to learn some clues from them to break the enemy.

During the visit, Xu Ning unexpectedly spotted a herd of goats climbing freely on the steep cliff face.

His eyes lit up, and he suddenly had a plan in his heart.

Xu Ning returned to the camp, immediately convened the deputy generals to discuss, and told them his thoughts, and everyone felt that this was a feasible solution. So, Xu Ning immediately ordered the soldiers to buy goats at a high price in the surrounding area, and at the same time ordered the craftsmen to make three hundred lanterns day and night.

Soon, hundreds of goats were purchased in the barracks. These goat hairs come in a variety of colors and are robust. And the production of 300 lanterns was also completed.

Yeluhu thought that he could sit back and relax by hiding in the unicorn mountain, drinking and having fun every day, drunk and dreaming of death.

He instructed the soldiers to strictly guard the clear road in front of the mountain, but he did not expect that Xu Ning had already become a bamboo.

On a night when he couldn't see his fingers, Xu Ning took action.

Yeluhu was asleep, suddenly awakened by a burst of cannonballs, he ran out of the camp, asked what was the situation, the soldiers reported, the Song army attacked the mountain. He could hear the sound of cannons and shouts of killing under the back mountain, and hurriedly came to the back mountain to check, only to see the fire under the mountain, the sound of killing shook the sky, and countless fires were moving towards the mountain.

Yeluhu had an ominous premonition in his heart, and he knew that this was the beginning of the Song army's attack on the mountain.

Yeluhu said in his heart: The Song army knew that the front mountain would not come, so they attacked from the back mountain, but did not know that the back mountain was a cliff, and you would not be able to come up even if you were thousands of troops and horses.

He immediately ordered to send heavy troops to the back mountain to block the attack of the Song soldiers, and concentrated all the rolling wood and stones in the front mountain to the back mountain.

How did he know that this was Xu Ning's carefully planned "sheep lantern meter".

Xu Ning knew that goats were good at climbing steep cliffs, so he specially purchased a large number of goats and hung two small lanterns on each horn to let them attack the mountain instead of the soldiers, so as to confuse the enemy. The goats were released from their cages and given their long-lost freedom. As soon as the cannon sounded in the rear, they were driven by the soldiers, and the soldiers shouted, and the goats rushed straight up the hill like arrows off the string.

Yeluhu looked down from the mountain and saw hundreds of lanterns rushing up the mountain, like a brave army climbing to the top of the mountain, and he hurriedly ordered the mountain to lower the rolling wood and stones. The goats were so nimble that they dodged the rocks and continued their climb to the top of the mountain.

Yeluhu saw that the enemy was attacking fiercely, and the rolling wood and stones could not stop it. He panicked in his heart, and hurriedly dispatched troops to strengthen the defense of the back mountain. However, his move made the forces of the front mountain weak. General Xu Ning took this opportunity to lead the army to sneak up the mountain, and after a fierce attack, he broke through the mountain gate.

The army poured in like a tidal wave, and the momentum was like a bamboo. It was only at this time that Yeluhu woke up like a dream, knew that he had been fooled, and hurriedly waved his knife to resist, but Xu Ning had already shot him. The two fought for dozens of rounds, Yelu Hu was not Xu Ning's opponent, and he was panicked in his heart, and was finally stabbed to death by Xu Ning with one shot.

When the Liao soldiers and grass cowards on the mountain saw that the commander was dead, their morale was immediately gone. They were captured or killed, and none of them were spared. General Xu Ning swept away the entire cottage in one go.

In the early morning of the next day, Xu Ning completely controlled the Dujiao Mountain, seized a large number of weapons, grain and grass, he reorganized his men and horses, had a full meal, continued to march north, and arrived at the city of Youzhou as scheduled to join the army of Song Jiang.

The battle of Dujiao Mountain made Xu Ning's reputation more and more resounding, and he also became a hero of wisdom and bravery.

In the conquest of Liao, Xu Ning made great contributions, killed the famous general Tianshan Yong of Liao, and cooperated with Lin Chong to break the Jupiter Array in the Taiyi Mixed Celestial Array. During the expedition to Tianhu, he beheaded the generals of the Jin army, An Shirong, Shi Ding, Nie Xin, and Chi Fang, and captured the fierce generals Zan Tongmei, Yuan Zhongliang, and E Quanzhong under Tianhu's tent. When he was recruiting Fangla, he only took 20 rounds to pick the famous Jiangnan general Lu Shibao.

During the Battle of Hangzhou, he was shot by a stray arrow, was seriously wounded, and finally died. He was the first general to die in the battle of Liangshan, and was later posthumously awarded the title of Zhongwulang by the imperial court.
