Xu Ning, who had just passed the age of independence, was influenced by his family since childhood and had a strong interest in instrumental music such as electronic keyboard, erhu, and trumpet. In 2011, he was admitted to the Conservatory of Music of Sichuan Normal University. At the freshman welcome party, Xu Ning saw the unique work of Sichuan opera for the first time - changing his face, and was deeply shocked. After many inquiries, Xu Ning learned that the face-changing performer was Cai Shaobo, vice president of Chengdu Sichuan Theatre, and he had a bold idea to specialize in instrumental performance, and decided to learn the performing arts of Sichuan opera from his teacher.

On the first weekend after the welcome party, he took a bus for more than two hours to the gate of the Chengdu Chuan Theater, and when he excitedly approached Cai Shaobo to show his intentions, Cai Shaobo politely refused him. Again and again, he tirelessly went to look for it, and when Xu Ning "blocked" Cai Shaobo at the gate of the Chengdu Chuan Theater for the seventh time, Cai Shaobo was touched by this college student's dedication to art and immediately agreed to accept him as an apprentice.
In the four years of college, when the students were enjoying the weekend time, Xu Ning had been tossing and turning between the school and the Chengdu Chuan Theater, learning the art of changing faces in an almost obsessive state, and in less than three years, Xu Ning could follow the teacher on stage. Four years of college life was short and fulfilling, Xu Ning got a bachelor's degree, and also learned sichuan opera to change his face. In June 2015, after graduating from university, Xu Ning was employed by the former Ganzhou District Art Troupe, the Hongxi Road Army Martyrs Memorial Hall in Ganzhou District, Zhangye City, and the Ganzhou District Cultural Center, officially starting his artistic career.
Xu Ning developed a strong interest in the provincial intangible cultural heritage project ShaoJia team cane puppet show, and began to learn the art of puppet art performance from its eighth and ninth generation representative inheritors. After innovation, the puppet drama "Odd Puppet Brilliant", which was created and performed by him, achieved very good performance and inheritance effects, and created a precedent for the integration and development of traditional skills and innovation in Ganzhou District.
In the past two years, he has participated in exhibitions and program recordings many times, actively participated in the annual voluntary performance of activities to benefit the people such as townships, villages, street communities, military barracks, and nursing homes, and carried out exhibition and inheritance activities such as intangible cultural heritage into campuses, so as to carry forward the intangible cultural heritage.
In the Spring Festival of 2021, in order to enrich the holiday life of the citizens, Ganzhou District held a large-scale light exhibition, and Xu Ning braved the cold every day and insisted on performing for more than 20 days in thin performance costumes.
