Xihua Park Botanical Library
The plant library is located in Xihua Park, Kunming City, built in 2016, is the first plant library in Kunming City, with a usable area of 100 square meters, as a cultural facility that provides free services for the public, so that visitors have a place to rest and understand the culture of garden plants, at the same time, it also provides books, consultation, plant science and other rich cultural services, integrating reading into every corner of Kunming's urban civilization development, embedding green plant culture into urban leisure life, and fitting the park ecology, rest, public welfare, The development concept of popular science. In 2022, it was rated as the most beautiful reading space in Xishan District by the Xishan District Culture and Tourism Bureau, and was successfully declared as the most beautiful reading space in Kunming.
Reading, consulting, and plant science popularization are all done in one stop
Since its opening, the botanical library has been open to the public free of charge, attracting many citizens, especially the children's general education area specially created for children, which is mainly based on plant-related picture books and picture albums, which has been favored by parents and children, allowing everyone to appreciate the mysteries of the plant world from the fragrance of books. Here, if you don't know anything in a book, you can consult with the library manager, and if you don't know too much about the growth habits of some plants, you can go to the "Plant Doctor Service Station" for consultation.
The library has a collection of more than 6,000 professional books, presented in the form of a book bar, which gathers many professional books on plants and exquisite real-life picture albums that express the landscape design, and is divided into areas such as children's general education area, horticulture area, and book donation area to facilitate the public's reading. Brand new bookshelves, a dazzling collection of botanical books, log tables and chairs, sofas and exquisite bonsai look comfortable and fresh, and the cooperation between books and nature allows everyone who comes here to appreciate the mysteries of the plant world from the fragrance of books. At the same time, according to the books required for the daily service of the Botanical Garden, the Xishan District Library adopts the method of "you order food, I pay" to carry out book services, and can provide book lists every year to purchase the books needed for it.
The botanical garden where the library is located is a special park based on ornamental plants, with more than 50,000 22 iris varieties based on native irises, more than 4,000 trees and more than 100 plant varieties. The first "plant doctor service station" in Kunming was created, with the purpose of popularizing flower knowledge and the concept of showing flower life for the real scene layout, and the "floral lecture hall" was opened to popularize horticultural knowledge, integrating horticultural material sales, horticultural knowledge exchange, flower DIY interaction, and home plant maintenance services, which were open to the public for a long time.
Cultural activities bring the park to life
The extension of public cultural services will turn a botanical garden focusing on green plant ornamentation into a cultural activities such as national reading, research, and parent-child reading, and turn it into a "lively" ocean of green plant knowledge.
Nature is a big outdoor classroom. The Botanical Garden provides a research place for children to go into nature to discover problems, and then carry out cooperative exploration around the problems, so that students can cultivate their observation skills, cooperation skills, and ability to collect and process information through viewing, recording, discussing, hands-on, designing photography, thinking, etc.
Combined with the "Happy Reading Express" activity in Xishan District, the Botanical Library has flexibly transformed the mobile book service into the park, and led tourists and citizens to enjoy the beautiful scenery, watch movies, listen to music, learn culture, and taste food in reading, so as to make the promotion of reading more grounded and more congregating.
At the same time, using the many picture books in the library and the abundant green plants in the park, and the surrounding kindergartens and primary schools, on weekends and holidays, the old activity of the district library "parent-child reading activities" will be renovated, and activities such as sending books, parent-child reading check-ins, and theme recitations will be carried out in the park and the plant library, so as to create a strong reading atmosphere, stimulate the interest of parents and children in reading, enrich children's knowledge, and broaden their horizons.
