According to foreign media Sheep Esports, Riot Games plans to add a new League of Legends World event from 2025, which will be held between winter and spring. Although the details of the event have not yet been finalized, including the format and location of the competition, it is reported that the four major regions will send teams to participate.
According to the leaks, the LCS is already exploring a three-season one-year format similar to the LEC region for this additional international event.
The new World Championship is expected to take place between March and April, while the MSI Mid-Season Championship is expected to be postponed beyond May.
Separately, Sheep Esports said it has reached out to a Riot insider, who said it will announce an updated League of Legends 2025 event schedule in June this year.
Historically, there have been intercontinental matches, which were held in early July and lasted for a week, with Asian matchups including LPL, LCK, and LMS. However, the event was officially cancelled in 2020.
Prior to this, a foreign commentator revealed that Riot Games will add a third major event in '24. This time, similar news came out again, which still aroused concern. Once new events are added, the league planning of the LPL and LCK will need to be adjusted.
