Huang Junbi and Zhang Daqian, two famous masters of Chinese painting in the modern and modern art world, have been old friends for decades.
First acquaintance: Zhang Daqian crossed thousands of miles to find Huang Junbi
The acquaintance between the two was quite dramatic. In 1929, Zhang Daqian was amazed when he saw Huang Junbi's "Imitation of Stone Creek Secluded Residence" at a Japanese art exhibition, shouting "The cloud waterfall is ethereal, I admire Huang Junbi", and couldn't wait to get to know him.
After returning to China, Zhang Daqian went straight to Guangzhou to find Huang Junbi. After an appointment, the two were able to meet, and at first sight, they cherished each other, and wrote poems to sigh and hate each other. Zhang Daqian said with emotion: "I can know you alone, and I was handsome and super crowd at that time. Huang Junbi also said: "Zhang Daqian is an extraordinary person. ”
Huang Junbi and Zhang Daqian are of the same age, and they appreciate each other, so they naturally became close friends. Just like ordinary people making friends, they meet for parties and outings whenever they have the opportunity, and they are relaxed and comfortable.

1939 was the longest year the two got together. In May 1939, on Zhang Daqian's 41st birthday, Huang Junbi and a group of friends came to celebrate his birthday, and they made an appointment to travel to Jianmen Scenic Area together.
The next day, the group started an 11-day journey, visiting Qinglong Village, Feixian Pass, Jianmen, Mingyue Gorge, Qipan Pass, Thousand Buddha Cliff, Jialing River, Huangze Temple and other places of interest. Along the way, there are many anecdotes.
Zhang Daqian's poetry is like a spring, gushing endlessly, while Huang Junbi brought a camera to take pictures and sketch. When encountering a strange scene, Zhang Daqian shouted to Huang Junbi, "Shoot! Shoot!" and Huang Junbi was shouted by Zhang Daqian, and he often messed up his hands and feet, and he didn't shoot it, which caused everyone to laugh again and again.
In the second month of the trip to Jianmen, Huang Junbi and Zhang Daqian met again to travel to Emei. During this trip, Zhang Daqian affectionately called Huang Junbi as a "gentleman", and carved a seal of "gentleman" for Huang Junbi on the way.
Since then, the name of "Junweng" has accompanied Huang Junbi throughout his life.
In his old age, he still collaborated on painting
In November 1977, at the birthday celebration of Huang Junbi's 80th birthday, Zhang Daqian, who had a long beard, said to Huang Junbi: "When we sit together, everyone says that I am old, but in fact, I am one year younger than you, but my beard is a little longer than your old brother." The witty remark caused Huang Junbi to laugh.
In May 1978, to Zhang Daqian's 80th birthday, Huang Junbi also accompanied him. At that time, the two had known each other for nearly 50 years and could be described as real "old friends".
Zhang Daqian is an interesting person, especially in the face of his "old friend" Huang Junbi, and he is not afraid of ridicule and fun.
In 1982, Zhang Daqian talked about his relationship with Huang Junbi in an interview with Taiwan's "United Daily News": "We are like brothers, old friends for more than 50 years, and there are many opportunities for cooperation. Every time I broke a drawing, he cleaned up the mess. For decades, when we worked together, he mostly started first, and I followed. You can't blame me for not drawing well, you don't lose money. After the painting went out of the door, it was not good, so I said that I didn't draw it haha. ”

In April of that year, the two were invited by the Taipei Museum of History to collaborate on "Cihu Changchun". This is the last painting that Huang Junbi and Zhang Daqian collaborated on. In April of the following year, Zhang Daqian passed away.
