These 4 kinds of laundry detergents are anti-cancer "stumbling blocks", breast cancer patients should check themselves!

author:Breast Cancer Support Circle

Regarding the lightning protection ingredients of dish soap, toothpaste, and shampoo, Mutual Aid Jun has crossed a lot of key points, what surfactants, preservatives, what triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate...... All of them are very unfriendly to the prognosis of breast cancer patients.

But do you know that the soap and laundry detergent we use every day are not safe! Some of them are carcinogenic, some directly interfere with endocrine function, and some affect calcium absorption...... There are pitfalls to watch out for everywhere.

01 These 3 kinds of soaps are not safe to use for a long time

1) Soaps containing artificial musk

On the one hand, artificial musk is found in many perfumes and soaps, such as "xylene" and "nitro compounds", both of which have been shown in studies to be carcinogenic, but not all brands will be declared in the ingredient list.

On the other hand, the adverse effects of artificial musk on breast cancer patients have been confirmed by a study in Japan [1] (researchers have detected artificial musk residues in breast milk and adipose tissue for the first time): artificial musk has side effects such as disrupting endocrine and affecting the normal functioning of biological hormones, and is carcinogenic. The soap is an item that is in direct contact with our skin, and the frequency of daily use is also high, and the artificial musk it contains is easy to be absorbed through the skin and then accumulated in the body, so it has to be prevented.

2) Soap containing triclocarban

"Triclocarban" is added to soap as an antibacterial additive, but as early as 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has suggested that the addition of triclocarban to soap has no obvious antibacterial effect. Even if it is ineffective, it also has endocrine disrupting activity [2] and may trigger drug resistance and promote the spread of multidrug resistance genes.

What's more, it can also migrate from the product to a variety of environmental media, and then re-enter the human body through food and drinking water, which can be said to be a haunting degree of danger......

3) Soaps that have softened

For breast cancer patients with low immunity, softened soap is just as dangerous as sprouted potatoes. The reason is that when the soaps start to become wet and soft (soap dispensers are not dry, it is easy to cause the soap to become soft), it means that they have become a paradise for all kinds of bacteria and molds, which is comparable to "raising Gu".

Most breast cancer patients have either undergone surgery or radiotherapy, and their immunity and skin condition are in the recovery period.

Many breast cancer patients are very cautious about skin care problems, thinking that soap is more natural and clean than shower gel, and some sisters also bought the Internet celebrity goat milk soap known as "mild and non-irritating", but any behavior of putting aside ingredients to talk about health is a hooligan - we can only identify the "ingredients" and see the ingredient list, so that we can know whether the things we use are safe, whether it is an IQ tax, whether it will be detrimental to the recovery of their condition, and we can't blindly believe the advertising slogan.

02 These 4 kinds of laundry detergent are quite dangerous

✦ Laundry detergent containing phthalates

Bad news 1: Phthalates alter hormone levels in the ovaries [3], may also cause preterm birth by lowering estrogen and progesterone levels in the uterus, and have been shown to lead to 100,000 premature deaths per year (especially the risk of death from heart disease), and a strong link to brain development and behavioural changes in infants and children (children with higher phthalates in their mothers during pregnancy score significantly lower in mental, motor, and behavioral development). Each of these hazards is enough to make breast cancer patients tremble.

Bad news 2: Phthalates can be found in almost all scented products, such as hairsprays, lotions, perfumes, and nail polishes, and nail polish is the highest concentration.

✦ Laundry detergent containing triclosan

Triclosan can interfere with endocrine function, and can be absorbed into the body through the skin, oral mucosa, and gastrointestinal pathways [4], and can also weaken the human immune system by changing the homeostasis of the skin, oral cavity, and intestinal flora [5], and long-term use can easily induce metabolic disorders, cardiotoxicity, and even cancer.

According to the Safety and Technical Specifications for Cosmetics (2015 Edition)[6], triclosan shall not be detected in shampoo and shampoo, and triclosan can only be used in hand soap, bath soap, shower gel, deodorant (non-spray), cosmetic powder and concealer, nail cleaner (nail cleaner should not be used more frequently than once every 2 weeks), etc., and the allowable concentration is limited to 0.3%.

However, in November last year, the State Food and Drug Administration also issued the Notice on the Detection of Prohibited Raw Materials in 9 Batches of Cosmetics (No. 60 [2023)"[7], pointing out that 9 batches of cosmetics were found to be banned raw materials and 2 shampoos were found to be triclosan. With this detection rate, we, as consumers, are still a little unpreventable, and it is recommended that breast cancer sisters should pay more attention when they usually buy.

✦ Laundry detergent containing sodium tetraborate

Sodium tetraborate is often used as an enzyme stabilizer, but the ingredient can interfere with the human endocrine system and reproductive system, is a moderately toxic substance, and is easy to cause skin irritation and allergies (the mainland "Safety and Technical Specifications for Cosmetics" clearly stipulates that sodium tetraborate shall not be used in products used by children under 3 years old). Therefore, Mutual Aid Jun sometimes thinks that for breast cancer sisters, maternal and infant toiletries may be a good choice?

✦ Laundry detergent containing methylisothiazolinone and DMDM hydantoin

The two ingredients of "methylisothiazolidone" and "DMDM hydantoin" may still be too professional and unfamiliar to most breast cancer sisters. But as long as Mutual Aid Jun says another name for them, everyone may understand it in seconds: formaldehyde.

It is a notorious carcinogen, irritating to the eyes, nose and throat, direct contact with the skin can cause allergic dermatitis, pigmentation, headache, respiratory edema, bronchitis, etc., high concentration of formaldehyde may also cause nasopharyngeal tumors [8]...... It's more harmful.

In addition to laundry detergent, the quality of laundry detergent is also a concern. On April 5 this year [9], Procter & Gamble announced a recall of more than 8.2 million bags of laundry pods sold in the North American market and the Canadian market, involving brands such as Tide and Jiasheng, due to a defective packaging that may pose a risk to children ingested, which can lead to serious health problems.

As early as 2022, Unilever also urgently recalled its products twice[10] on the grounds that the products may contain bacteria, which if they enter the body, pose a serious risk of infection to people who are immunocompromised, have the need for external medical equipment and have underlying lung diseases.

03 These 4 laundry misunderstandings are worth being wary of

The truth is: too much laundry detergent and laundry detergent can cause a lot of foam to form during the washing process, which will thickly cover the surface of the laundry, which in turn makes the washing process difficult to complete and inadequately cleaned, resulting in white spots and dirty appearances. Some laundry detergents/detergents contain powerful chemicals that can easily damage clothing when used in excess.

Foreign studies have shown [11] that the bacterial removal rate of 45-minute washing program + temperature of about 30 °C + ordinary laundry detergent is 99% and 99.9999%. Anti-cancer life is not easy, we breast cancer sisters should stop suffering from hand washing clothes.

One thing to say, soak the dirty clothes first, this operation is fine. Because soaking allows water-based stains on clothing to dissolve in water, it is easier to clean. But it's not right to soak for too long. Because the longer the soaking time, the chemicals in the laundry detergent/detergent and the stains in the laundry are easy to break down into the fabric fibers, causing the garment to fade and age.

Whether the zipper is opened or not does not affect the cleaning effect of the clothes, but it may wash the clothes - especially the metal zipper, which may not only scratch the inner barrel of the washing machine, but also may entangle other clothes and cause serious deformation.

These 4 kinds of laundry detergents are anti-cancer "stumbling blocks", breast cancer patients should check themselves!

Write at the end

Writing here, Mutual Aid Jun not only sighed, no wonder some people say that most of the women who "don't have to do housework" live longer, and do housework every day to contact with these processed toiletries, and it is inevitable that there will be health hazards in the long run, and it is recommended that sisters must wear gloves if they have to do housework, of course, it is also a very good way to let the object do, housework is evenly shared, happy and healthy! What about the sisters who are reading this article, are there any good cleaning and care brand recommendations? Are there any cleaning and care tips to share?

Warm reminder: The purpose of this article is to convey disease knowledge, and it is not used as a recommendation for diagnosis and treatment plans and medical basis.
