A fun hands-on activity

Xixia County urban area four elementary four three class Tian Jiahe

Instructor: Zhang Qingwei

On March 22nd, my class had the opportunity to visit the Meteorological Bureau, and I was very excited. Although we walked a long way, I walked briskly and did not feel tired at all.

We first came to a tall fort, and a staff member explained to us: "This is a cannon that participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, but now in peacetime, this cannon has been laid off and re-employed, and has been converted into an artificial rain cannon." ”

"I'm so lucky to see such a time-honored antique!" I thought to myself. The crew continued: "There is a chemical called silver iodide on the gun head, and when it falls into the clouds, it combines with the moisture in the clouds to form rain. At this time, I seemed to hear a loud "boom", and the cannonball drew a graceful arc and fell into the clouds, and the clouds kept rolling, and the water droplets in the clouds were hugged together, and they couldn't wait to parachute. Although the sun was shining, I vaguely felt a hint of coolness.

Then we came to a courtyard full of instruments, which measured the temperature according to the amount of water evaporated, the time the sun hit the land in a day, and the temperature of the soil at different depths...... It really dazzled me and dizzy. I love this kind of learning activity that goes out of the classroom and experiences it hands-on!

Then we watched some short films in a hall with a huge screen and learned a lot about meteorology, such as the clouds that can rain are cumulonimbus clouds, lightning flashes are divided into intra-cloud flashes, inter-cloud flashes and cloud-to-ground flashes, and thunder is caused by lightning......

Just when I thought the event was coming to an end, the teacher suddenly announced, "Let's have a prize quiz!" and I was looking forward to the prize. The teacher asked nine questions in a row, and I knew most of them, but I didn't dare to raise my hand because I was timid. Seeing the people around me get the prize, I felt envious and annoyed in my heart, and I made up my mind that I must be brave in the future!

This activity not only made me happy, but also taught me a lot of meteorological knowledge, which was really an interesting practical activity!

Visit the Meteorological Office

Zhang Haoxuan, Class 43 of the Fourth Primary School in the City

Instructor: Zhang Qingwei

On Friday morning, we had the privilege of visiting the Meteorological Bureau in the fourth and third shifts. At 8 o'clock, after the leader explained the requirements to us, we set off with neat steps, holding the party flag and the school flag.

After we arrived at the Meteorological Bureau, Aunt Pang welcomed us at the gate of the meteorological station and briefed us on the situation of the Meteorological Bureau.

After listening, we split into two groups, I was in the second group, and a teacher led us to a wide open space where a cannon was placed. An uncle who looked to be about forty or fifty years old said, "Hello everyone, I am from the weather modification department of the Meteorological Bureau, and I will introduce the role of this cannon." The uncle introduced: "This is the figure 37 type anti-aircraft cannon, which was originally a weapon used during the period of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, and is now used for artificial rain and snowfall." The uncle took another cannonball and said, "This is a cannonball for artificial rainfall, and the thing on the cannonball head is called silver iodide, which is an important component of artificial rainfall, and it will react with the water in the clouds, so that the small water droplets in the clouds become large water droplets, so as to achieve artificial rainfall." "After listening to this, my uncle wanted to pick two people to go up and demonstrate, and I was selected. On my side is to control the height of the barrel, and on the other side is to control the direction. After the operation, my uncle said that he was going to fire, and I was so frightened that I hurried down. It turned out that the uncle was just joking, because we simply did not have the ability to fire.

We came to a meadow again, on which were placed all kinds of meteorological facilities, some to measure the temperature of the ground, some to measure rainfall, some to measure the temperature of the air, and so on. Among them, I am most interested in the funnel type rain meter, every 0.1mm of rainwater enters the instrument, the funnel will rotate once, and the rainfall will be measured by the number of rotations.

After visiting the outside, we visited the interior again. Here we watched a video about meteorology, from which I learned that thunder and lightning are natural phenomena accompanied by lightning and thunder. It is mainly produced in cumulonimbus clouds with strong airflow, and the potential difference between the positive charge in the upper part of the cloud and the negative charge in the lower part of the cloud forms a potential difference, and when this potential difference reaches a certain extent, the discharge phenomenon will occur. During the discharge, the air in the lightning channel expands dramatically and creates a shock wave, which in turn produces a thunderous roar. Wow, that's amazing!

In the end, I answered two questions correctly and got two pens!

From this visit to the Meteorological Bureau, I learned a lot of meteorological knowledge, and it was really worth the trip!

Visit the weather station

Xixia County Urban District No. 4 Primary School 4 Class 3 Li Yinuo

Instructor: Zhang Qingwei

On the 64th "World Meteorological Day", the school organized us to go to the weather station to participate in practical activities. Hearing the news, the whole class boiled, screaming incessantly, and everyone couldn't wait to feast their eyes on it!

Along the way, we walked with cheerful steps towards our destination. As soon as I arrived at the door, I was greeted by a beautiful landscape painting. The environment inside is fresh, and the golden rape flowers are fluttering in the wind, as if welcoming us. At this time, Director Pang of the Meteorological Bureau was standing at the door and greeted us with a smile, giving us a brief introduction to the layout and establishment time of the Meteorological Bureau, and we officially started the tour.

The first stop is to visit the "louver box". The staff patiently explained to us its working principle and use requirements, it is a white wooden box used to place the air temperature measuring instrument, which is one of the most eye-catching signs of the weather station and observation field. It is mainly to observe the natural conditions of the atmosphere, requiring good ventilation of the louver box and avoiding direct sunlight. At this time, it dawned on me that I was no longer unfamiliar with this magical meteorological observation.

The second stop we visited was the "Anti-aircraft Artillery". The name sounds like something extraordinary. It is mainly used for artificial weather modification, including artificial rain enhancement, hail prevention, fog removal, haze and other meteorological conditions. Under appropriate conditions, the Meteorological Bureau will load the catalyst into the anti-aircraft gun and launch it at a predetermined position to carry out physicochemical and artificial effects on the local atmosphere to achieve the goal, which undoubtedly adds a lot of spiritual food to me.

In the end, we walked into the room, watched the meteorological video, and the staff gave us a lot of meteorological knowledge, and then we had a knowledge competition, which was particularly interesting, and some students also won prizes.

This practical activity of the meteorological observatory not only enabled me to understand meteorological knowledge and enrich my knowledge reserve, but also made me feel the rapid development of modern science and technology. I really hope to participate in such a fun event next time.

Visit the Meteorological Office

Xu Kairui, Class 43 of the Fourth Primary School in Xixia County

Instructor: Zhang Qingwei

Today, the teacher took us to visit the Meteorological Bureau, and we laughed and laughed along the way, and before we knew it, we arrived at our destination.

When I arrived at the Meteorological Bureau, I looked up and saw many high-tech equipment standing there, which looked very magnificent. Suddenly, an uncle who was a weather station docent came to us, and he led us to the machine and equipment to explain them one by one.

First, the uncle pointed to a machine and said, "Students, this is a measure of temperature and humidity". As he spoke, he opened the door of the machine, and there were two long, thick thermometers inside. Then he led us to a pool of water, in the middle of which was a large and round pool, and on the side was a small pool smaller than the middle, which my uncle pointed to and said, "This is used to measure evaporation." And after each evaporation, water should be added, otherwise the measurement data will not be accurate. The measurement time is 8 p.m. every day, and the subtraction of the two measurements is the evaporation of one day. "Wow! That's a lot of meteorological knowledge. We went to another instrument and found eight thermometers in the soil, and my uncle said, "This is used to measure the temperature of the soil." Depending on the depth, the temperature is also different. "The scientific instruments are amazing today! Soon my uncle explained them one by one.

In the end, we left a photo in the yard and reluctantly left the weather station.

On this day, I not only learned meteorological knowledge and broadened my horizons, but also gained happiness, which benefited me a lot, and I felt that the trip was worthwhile!
