author:Qingfeng Literature and History

In the mid-80s of the last century, a film reflecting the first major case in New China - the corruption case of Zhang Zishan and Liu Qingshan was released nationwide.

In order to ensure the authenticity of the movie, none of the characters in the movie use pseudonyms, and it is from this movie that people know that the hero who has the courage to expose the crimes of Zhang and Liu is Li Kecai, the former deputy commissioner of the Tianjin Special Administration.

After the movie aired, Li Kecai's neighbors and friends admired his undaunted approach to power, and Li Kecai became a celebrity in the surrounding area.

One night, there was a knock on Li Kecai's door, and when he opened the door, he found three young people who had never known each other standing outside the door, and the three of them looked alike, apparently their own brothers.

Li Kecai then invited the three of them in, and after a brief self-introduction, Li Kecai learned that these three people were Liu Qingshan's three sons.

And the purpose of their trip was to ask Li Kecai to come forward and help his father rehabilitate.

Li Kecai was shocked when he heard the other party's appeal, and after questioning, he learned that at the time of Liu Qingshan's case, the three of them were still young and did not have a deep understanding of their father's crimes.

In the more than 30 years that followed, they suffered many injustices because of their status as the sons of embezzlers.

When Liu Qingshan was executed, his eldest son Liu Tieqi was just seven years old, his second son Liu Tiejia was four years old, and his youngest son Liu Tiebing was still in infancy.

Their mother, Fan Yong, could not afford to raise them, so the three brothers returned to their hometown to live with their uncle.

Liu Tieqi, the eldest of the three brothers, has excellent academic performance since he was a child, ranking among the best in schools at all levels, and his results in the college entrance examination have reached the admission standards of Tsinghua University, but because of the name of the son of a corrupt criminal, Liu Tieqi finally chose to apply for the Beijing Petroleum Institute.

The candidates of the Petroleum Institute were also shocked after seeing his results, and only after learning that he was Liu Qingshan's eldest son, the school party committee believed that the nature of the matter was special, and also held a special discussion meeting, and finally allowed Liu Tieqi to enter the school.

In addition to his studies, Liu Qingshan's identity as the son almost made him miss his lover.

At that time, Liu Tieqi had a very good relationship with Liu Jixian, a girl from the neighbor's house, and there was a mutual admiration between the two, but when Liu Jixian's parents learned of Liu Tieqi's background, they ordered their daughter to cut off contact with him.

In addition to Liu Tieqi, Liu Tiejia and Liu Tiebing have also encountered setbacks in their studies and work because of Liu Qingshan's affairs.

Liu Tiebing was also disqualified from joining the army because of this incident, which made them all angry about their father's crimes.

In the mid-80s, there was a wave of rehabilitation of veteran cadres on the mainland, and some leading cadres who had been persecuted during the political movement had their reputations restored, and their families were taken care of accordingly.

After watching the movie, the three brothers learned that Li Kecai was the whistleblower of the corruption incident that year, so they visited the door, hoping that he could help Liu Qingshan exonerate the crime, so that their lives could get back on track.

After Li Kecai learned about the general situation of the three brothers, although he felt sympathy for their plight, he still firmly refused Liu Qingshan's request to exonerate him.

In order to let the three brothers understand themselves, he introduced in detail the mistakes Liu Qingshan made back then.

In July 1949, Li Kecai was transferred from Yutian County to Tianjin and Yang Liuqing was appointed as the deputy commissioner of the Tianjin Special Administration, with Liu Qingshan and another embezzler, Zhang Zishan, as his superiors.

At the beginning, the three of them worked together tacitly, and Li Kecai also admired these two old revolutionaries very much.

But during the "three anti" and "five anti" periods in 1950. Li Kecai gradually noticed the abnormality, when he reported to Liu Qingshan, he found that Liu Qingshan was always yawning and looking listless, which was very similar to the drug addict in his impression.

Later, when Li Kecai reported to work, Liu Qingshan actually began to take drugs in front of him, which shocked Li Kecai.

He immediately reported the situation to Zhang Zishan, but Zhang Zishan told Li Kecai not to make a fuss and did not do anything to Liu Qingshan.

Later, Li Kecai learned that Liu Qingshan and Zhang Zishan had already colluded together, and they not only suppressed dissidents in political work, but also embezzled stolen money through various means, and even the disaster relief funds allocated by the central government to Tianjin were embezzled by the two.

While Liu Qingshan and Zhang Zishan are making a lot of money, their selfish desires are also expanding.

At that time, they felt that the jeeps allocated to them by the government agencies were not "high-grade" enough, so they embezzled public funds to buy two new cars from the United States, which cost a huge amount.

In addition, the two of them often go in and out of Fengyue places together, which greatly damages the image of party members and cadres.

At that time, Liu Qingshan liked to eat dumplings stuffed with leeks very much, but he was afraid that he would have an upset stomach after eating leeks, so he asked the chef to make "leek dumplings" without leeks.

Eventually, the chef wrapped the whole leek in the dumplings and left the roots outside to wait for the dumplings to cook before pulling out the leeks, which was his wish.

From this tricky request, we can see how extravagant Liu Qingshan's life is.

Li Kecai was angry at Liu Qingshan and Zhang Zishan's actions, and he repeatedly reported the situation to his superiors, but in the end it had no effect, and some leaders even put his report materials on Liu Qingshan's desk, which made Li Kecai very disappointed.

But he never gave up his determination to bring down the two corrupt officials, and on November 21, 1951, when the Third Congress of the Communist Party of China in Hebei Province was held, Li Kecai was the first to stand up and speak.

In front of more than 800 deputies, he reported and exposed the crimes of Liu Qingshan and Zhang Zishan, which attracted great attention from the leaders attending the meeting.

The next day, the investigation team of the Organization Department came to Baoding, where the venue was held, and many local officials came forward one after another to expose the crimes of Zhang and Liu.

Eventually, they were also arrested and imprisoned, and after Chairman Mao saw the case files of the two men, he made a verdict to execute them, and the two suspects were executed on February 10, 1952.

Although Liu Qingshan once made contributions to the establishment of New China, his crimes of embezzlement and drug abuse are also irrefutable.

After listening to Li Kecai's explanation, Liu Qingshan's three sons also understood his good intentions back then, and left Li Kecai's residence after expressing their apologies.

As a revolutionary cadre, Liu Qingshan failed to stick to his original intention after the founding of New China and made serious mistakes, which eventually led to his family being implicated.

This historical lesson is still thought-provoking to this day, and it also shows us the strength and determination of New China in its anti-corruption work.
