Recently, when the author visited the rice market in Anhui, he found that the phenomenon of dealers directly connecting with large households has increased, and the retailer group has shrunk, but the author does not agree with the judgment that "retailers will disappear". This is an overly biased statement, or it is said that retailers still have value today.
First of all, the retailer's direct service to the village to the field cannot be completely replaced. During the visit, there are indeed many dealers who directly serve large growers, or are ready to skip retailers to directly face large farmers. However, many dealers said that village and town retailers have a deep customer relationship with growers, and have a better understanding of the specific situation of local planting. Especially in areas where there are still many retail investors, dealers also need to rely on retailers to extend their services and distribute goods.
Secondly, the value of retailers is also reflected in the response to a long-standing phenomenon in the channel, which is credit sales. Some dealers do not have a good grasp of the farming management ability of large planters, and the trust is not high, so they dare not directly face the large planters to sell on credit, so they need to rely on their trust or relatively strong retailers to carry out the risk transfer of pressure and credit sales to ensure the stability of their own channels. Credit sales have always been known as the industry's "tumor", and some pesticide companies and dealers promise not to sell on credit, but from the current point of view, it is still "you don't sell on credit to him" situation, plus the grain harvest can not be guaranteed, many dealers can not afford to sell on credit in large quantities.
Thirdly, we have to see that the number of retailers is indeed shrinking, but there are also retailers that are getting bigger. Although more and more dealers are ready to skip retailers and directly face the big growers, those retailers who still have survival value are like "cattle people". During this visit, the author found that the powerful township retailer platform is getting bigger and bigger, and some even exceed county-level dealers, and the future stores of these retailers will become more and more large-scale.
The growth or disappearance of retailers is a natural law under the development of the era of large households. Those retailers who do not abide by market rules and disrupt product prices only want to make quick money, which is not sustainable after all, and retailers who are trusted by farmers, have rich service experience and have certain thinking about product layout, although they have their existence value. For some dealers or growers, they are indispensable, and they may become bigger and bigger in the future!
