The common sunscreen "spray" cosmetics on the market can generally be divided into two categories: spray form and aerosol form, the difference is whether it contains propellant or not.
Spray-type cosmetics do not contain propellants, and mainly rely on the pressure difference generated by the mechanical pressure pump to spray the spray, and the "mist" sprayed is generally large droplets (particles).
Aerosol cosmetics contain propellants, which mainly rely on the impetus generated by the propellant ejection from liquid to gaseous state when the propellant is sprayed, and the "mist" sprayed is generally smaller than the droplets (particles), and the packaging of such products is mostly metal cans.
There is a risk of inhalation and is not recommended for use in children
According to the "Technical Guidelines for Children's Cosmetics" issued by the China Institute for Food and Drug Control on August 31, 2023, "it is not recommended for children to use spray-type sunscreen cosmetics, and if they must be used, the risk of inhalation should be fully considered, and similar warning words such as 'do not spray directly on the face' and 'avoid inhalation' should be marked in the use method".
The State Food and Drug Administration once again reminded parents that it is not recommended for children to use sunscreen "spray" cosmetics, especially for young children and children with allergies, and such cosmetics should be kept out of the reach of children.
Due to the incomplete development of children in all aspects, weak respiratory control ability, coupled with the fact that children's minds are not yet sound, in the process of using sunscreen "spray" cosmetics are more likely to accidentally enter the nose, mouth, eyes, etc., causing health risks;

Risk of inhalation
When consumers use sunscreen "spray" cosmetics on their skin, they may inadvertently inhale sprayed droplets, which may contain a variety of cosmetic ingredients such as sunscreens, volatile organic compounds, fragrances, preservatives, and more.
When used intensively in a small confined space, such as in a car with the windows closed, it may cause a large amount of inhalation in a short period of time, which may cause health risks, especially in children with allergies with high airway sensitivity, who are prone to induce severe coughing or wheezing attacks.
Compared with spray-based cosmetics, aerosol-based cosmetics are relatively riskier to inhale when used due to the relatively smaller droplets sprayed.
Flammable and explosive risk
Because the propellant used in aerosol products may be flammable substances such as butane and propane, and is in a high-pressure state of liquefaction, it is prone to deflagration accidents when it encounters an ignition source.
Therefore, sunscreen "spray" cosmetics need to pay attention to the issue of fire and explosion protection when using and storing.
How to properly use sunscreen "spray" cosmetics?
1. Try to avoid inhaling "sprays"
Use sunscreen "spray" cosmetics in well-ventilated areas, and do not use them in small, confined spaces such as cars and restrooms. When spraying, be careful to avoid the nose, mouth, eyes, and try to avoid inhalation.
If a large amount of inhalation of "spray" cosmetics causes nasal pain and itching, pharyngeal discomfort, coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, etc., first of all, you should go to a space with air circulation in time, and clean the cosmetics to avoid re-contact.

2. Pay attention to storage
