I can't bear to return to the guest with mud shoes, and the ice and snow pave the white jade steps

- Chronicles of King Chukaoli (10)

In the deep winter of 239 BC, it was extremely cold in the south of Chu.

That night, the doorman Zhu Ying came to the door in a cold air to ask to see him.

Since leaving the capital Shouchun, Chu Xiangchun Shenjun Huang Xie came to his new fiefdom Wu (with today's Suzhou as the core, including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and some areas of Shanghai), the original crowd of doormen gradually dispersed.

At that time, Wu was remote, isolated, desolate, backward, and had not yet been developed and developed, but it was just a wild land.

Although Huang Xie is still the prime minister of Chu in name, in fact, he has long existed in name only. Moreover, he is in Wu Land, thousands of miles away from the capital Shouchun, how can he exercise his power.

has its name but not the fact, this is the last bit of concern and thought that King Kaoli left to Huang Xie. This also shows that King Kaoli treats Huang Xie, who saves his life and shares hardships, and is still thinking about the old feelings.

Those doormen who tended to be inflammatory, with a keen sense of smell, noticed that Chunshenjun Huang Xie had lost the favor of King Chu Kaolie, and gradually lost power, so they chose to leave on their own and find another high branch.

After Huang Xie arrived in Wudi, his income dropped sharply, and it was difficult to support the luxury and arrogance of "Three Thousand Beads".

Zhu Ying was Huang Xie's "left arm" when the crowd of customers gathered that year.

Huang Xie's "right arm" is Li Yuan, the uncle of Xiong Han, the prince of Chu State, and the brother of Li Yan, the queen of King Chu Kaolie.

Zhu Ying is also one of the few loyal and brave guests who followed Huang Xie to Wu.

In other words, Zhu Ying was the first to smell the unexpected and dangerous.

Zhu Ying was also the first person to warn Huang Xie, reminding Huang Xie of the approaching danger and beware of Li Yuan, the villain who was good at disguise around him.

Zhu Ying's actions were proved by later history, Huang Xie did not look away at him, nor did he treat him well in vain.

In 238 BC, this year was the third year that Chun Shenjun left the capital Shouchun. It is also the 25th year of King Kaolie's tenure as King of Chu, and the 25th year of Huang Xie's tenure as Prime Minister of Chu.

In the spring of that year, King Kauret fell ill.

I can't afford to be sick.

Zhu Ying didn't remember herself, this was the first time she came to see Huang Xie.

This time, and for the last time, Zhu Ying and Huang Xie had a long talk on a winter night. Translated into today's vernacular, the dialogue is to the following effect:

Zhu Ying said bluntly to Huang Xie: Xiangguo, there are unexpected blessings in the world, and there are also unexpected disasters. Now that you are in an unexpected world, how can you not get an unexpected person to serve a king who is unexpected?

Chun Shenjun said, Zhu Ying, Zhu Ying, then you can tell me, what is the blessing of surprise?

Zhu Ying said: You have been the prime minister of Chu for more than 20 years, although you are nominally the prime minister of Chu, in essence you are the king of Chu. All five of your sons have become auxiliary ministers to the princes. Now the king is very sick. Once the king is dead, you have to be the new king's minister, and the new king is very weak, so you have to replace the new king in charge of the country, just like the Duke of Zhou back then, and then let the new king govern when he is mature. Otherwise, you can claim the throne in the south and control the state of Chu. This is the so-called unexpected blessing.

Chun Shenjun asked again: Then what is an unexpected disaster?

Zhu Ying said: Your proud guest Li Yuan is not the minister who governs the country at all, but the brother-in-law of the king of Chu. Since he is not a general who leads the army, but he is secretly raising assassins, this matter has been known to everyone for a long time. After the death of the king, Li Yuan will definitely enter the palace, and according to this recital, he will fake the king's edict and kill you. This is the so-called unexpected disaster.

Chun Shenjun said: So, what is an unexpected person?

Zhu Ying said: After the death of the king, Li Yuan must enter the palace first, master the forbidden army of the palace, control the capital, and deal with you. I beg your consent to stab him in the chest with a sword on your behalf, kill him on your behalf, get rid of this sinister villain for you, and let you return to the capital city of Shouchun, regain power, and save the state of Chu from danger. If things fail, even if you take your life, you will not be afraid! This is the so-called unexpected person!

Chun Shenjun said: Sir, don't mention this matter in the future. Li Yuan is sincere and honest, besides, I am so kind to their brothers and sisters, I don't believe that Li Yuan will use such insidious means against me, I am a dignified gentleman, how can I use such vicious means to harm him?

Zhu Ying was very helpless and sighed secretly: He hesitated when it was time to make a decision, and he was not far from the disaster!

The famous idiom that we are familiar with today, "When there is continuous interruption, you will suffer from it", comes from here.

In the winter of 238 BC, King Kaolie, the king of Chu who had ruled for 25 years, died of illness.

The message of the national funeral was sent to Wu through the official post road of the state, and arrived in today's Suzhou.

Huang Xie, the minister of Chu who had left Shouchun for three years, was infinitely sad, and Jane rushed to Shouchun, the national capital, with a fast horse and a starry night.

Hurry up and whip up, from the far south, to the north.

The biting cold wind whistled, the horses pierced through the morning mist and twilight haze, and the horses' hooves stirred up puffs of smoke and dust on the official road.

Shouchun City, far away.

On the 17th day of King Khao Lie's death, Huang Xie arrived in Shouchun.

Entering the Thorn Gate (South Gate) of Shouchun City, Huang Xie, who was overly sad, exhausted, and defenseless, was attacked by the killer lurking in the door hole, left and right, wielding a knife, a dazzling white light flashed, and his body was in a different place.

The head of the killer was cut off and thrown outside the city gates.

Blood-stained Jingmen.

At the same time that Huang Xie was killed, Huang Xie's family in Shouchun was wiped out.

Blood spattered Shouchun City.

He was 76 years old.

He died at the age of 52.

He didn't see him for the last time, but he went with him in such a miserable and pitiful way.

Who else could they be?

One is King Chu Kaolie, Xiong Wan. One is one of the four gentlemen of the Warring States, Chu Xiang, Chun Shenjun Huang Xie.

In the winter of 238 BC, it was extremely cold in the north of Chu.

On the night when Huang Xie was ambushed and killed by the killer, the cold wind was howling, the sky was full of snow, and it snowed heavily in the capital Shouchun for five days and five nights.

In history, the blizzard blocked the four city gates of Shouchun, and the thickness of the snow was almost level with the city wall.

The heavens have mercy on it, see its pity, and be unjust for it.

Huang Xie, who was in a different place, lay under the cold snow outside the Shouchun Thorn Gate.

Zhu Ying, a doorman who learned the bad news, led his three sons to rush to Shouchun at the risk of death.

Late one night, Zhu Ying and his son used their hands to pluck through the frozen snow and find Huang Xie's body and head.

On the tower of the city, the soldiers of the Chu army who were on guard silently watched all this in the snowy night, but they did not stop it.

The next day, the wind stopped and the snow stopped.

On the third day, Zhu Ying and his son, pulling a cart of firewood, went out of the city from the east gate of Shouchun.

Enter the dense forest of Palgong Mountain, and go all the way to the southeast, about 30 miles, here is a mountain in the Palgong Mountain Range, Lai Mountain.

Backed by Lai Mountain, facing the big lake (today's Wabu Lake) in the south, the big river flows, the distant mountains are full of snow, and the Shouchun City is seen in the distance.

Zhu Ying and his sons dug up the frozen soil and buried Huang Xie here.

There was no way to wash his face, clean his body, or put him in clean new clothes.

Zhu Ying took off her cotton clothes and covered him.

He slept here ever since.

Day and night, looking at his longevity from afar.

Many years later, someone wrote such a poem. Who said that the heavens were not hospitable, and sent one person in the snow. I can't bear to return to the guest with mud shoes, and the ice and snow pave the white jade steps.
