Recently, at the 2024 Expert Seminar on the High-quality Development of China's Mineral Water Industry under the theme of "Quality Drinking Water, Healthy China", medical professors, health experts, geologists and other authoritative figures gathered together.
With the discussion of the high-quality development of the mineral water industry as the core topic and the purpose of meeting the needs of consumers for healthy drinking water, the conference focused on the social significance of the value of mineral water and grading standards. In the end, the experts at the meeting reached a unanimous consensus: to promote relevant departments to learn from the "Chinese Residents' Drinking Water Guide" with water sources as the core dimension, and establish scientific and unified bottled drinking water grading standards and labels.
The experts and business representatives who participated in the meeting were: Tian Tingshan, researcher of the China Institute of Geological and Environmental Monitoring, Bai Xuetao, researcher and doctoral supervisor of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, professor of the Army Medical University, Shu Weiqun, doctoral supervisor, Chen Yayan, researcher of the Institute of Environment of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (who participated in the formulation of standard testing methods for drinking natural mineral water), Bin Dezhi, former senior engineer of the Ministry of Land and Resources, Zhao Guoxing, professor-level senior engineer of the Institute of Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Ma Jinya, chairman of the Healthy Drinking Water Professional Committee of the China National Health Association, Li Weiqi, secretary general, and Pang Zhenguo, general manager of the quality management department of Kunlunshan Mineral Water Co., Ltd.
The Healthy Drinking Water Professional Committee of the China National Health Association issued the "Proposal for Formulating Bottled Drinking Water Grading Standards and Promoting the High-quality Development of the Industry" in combination with the expert consensus. The proposal calls on the whole society in the following four aspects:
1. Establish grading standards and labels for bottled drinking water to guide consumers to choose water scientifically
Promote relevant departments to learn from the "Guidelines for Drinking Water for Chinese Residents" with water sources as the core dimension, and establish scientific and unified labels for the grading of bottled drinking water. Packaged drinking water manufacturers print standardized logo patterns on product labels, so that consumers can make healthier and more scientific choices clearly and intuitively.
2. Promote the disclosure of water source and water quality information in the industry, and promote the healthy and high-quality development of the industry
Call on packaged drinking water production enterprises to show the water source, water quality, mineral content and other information to the society through web pages, labels, QR codes and other means, consciously accept the supervision of the industry and consumers, and promote the development of the bottled water industry in the direction of high quality and health.
3. Increase the ecological protection of water sources and practice the concept of green development
The quality of water sources determines the quality of water, and the development of drinking water industry must pay attention to environmental protection, so as to develop in protection and protect in development. The source of high-altitude rare mineral water is the common wealth of the whole society, and enterprises should practice the concept of green and sustainable development and accept the supervision of the whole society.
4. Increase the popularization of drinking water science and promote the upgrading of drinking water health for all
High-quality drinking natural mineral water contains a variety of minerals and trace elements, which is beneficial to human health and suitable for long-term drinking. We advocate that the whole society pay attention to the health quality of drinking water, and hope that more industry associations, media and enterprises will increase the popularization of healthy drinking water knowledge, promote the upgrading of drinking water health for all, and improve the health of the public.

Experts at the meeting generally believed that with consumers' increasing concern about health, drinking water quality has become the focus of public concern, and the health value of high-quality natural mineral water will be more and more valued.
Chen Yayan, a researcher at the Institute of Environment of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, who has participated in the development of standard testing methods for drinking natural mineral water, believes that the current drinking water standards lag behind the development of the situation, she said that the first mineral water standard was formulated and released in 1987, and after three revisions in 2018, it has not been revised for 6 years.
At the meeting, the experts also had a full discussion on the positive impact of mineral water on human health, they recognized the health value of mineral water, but also proposed that most consumers are faced with a variety of bottled water on the market: pure water, natural water, mountain spring water, etc., can not directly choose to meet their own high-quality, healthy drinking water needs.
Li Weiqi, secretary-general of the Healthy Drinking Water Professional Committee of the China National Health Association, said that he found that many consumers go to the supermarket to buy bottled water, and will mistake pure water for mineral water, and also made suggestions to the representatives of Kunlun Mountain mineral water enterprises: Kunlun Mountain mineral water, as a leading enterprise of high-quality mineral water, needs to continue to strengthen market education and popularization.
