Agricultural power generation systems allow crop and electricity production to coexist on the same land and are an integrated water-energy-food nexus solution that allows for the simultaneous achievement of conflicting Sustainable Development Goals. The aim of this study was to analyze the experimental results of the response of wheat straw yield and quality to shading in Sweden's first agricultural photovoltaic system. It also aims to validate an integrated modeling platform for evaluating the performance of PV systems. An economic analysis was carried out to compare the profitability of a PV system with that of a conventional ground-mounted PV system, and Monte Carlo analysis was used to identify the parameters that had the greatest impact on profitability. Despite the support structure of the PV system and the PV modules producing an average ~25% reduction in photosynthetically active radiation at the ground level, there was no statistically significant difference in the sample in the PV system compared to the reference region of the sample. In 2021 and 2022, the land equivalence ratios for agricultural photovoltaic power generation systems were 1.27 and 1.39, respectively. The validation results of the integrated modeling platform show that the sub-model on the response of crop yield to shading conditions tends to underestimate the actual average crop yield under agricultural photovoltaic systems by ~7%. The results of the economic analysis show that the profitability of agricultural power generation systems is 30 times higher than that of conventional crop rotation in Sweden from a net present value perspective.
