The European Green Deal sets out our ambitions for a green transition, including a climate target of zero by 2050. The 55 package provides a concrete plan to keep the European economy firmly on track, and the EU plans to accelerate the pace away from fossil fuels. In the coming years, the economy of the net-zero era will be firmly established. New markets will be created, breakthrough clean technologies will be innovated, developed, and brought to market, and our energy system will be transformed. Therefore, those who invest first and faster today will ensure that they are well positioned in this new economy and a newly skilled workforce to create jobs, revitalize industrial manufacturing bases, reduce costs and businesses and support the rest of the world to decarbonize their own economies.
The scale of opportunities in European industry has put this demand in the spotlight. The International Energy Agency estimates that the global market for critical mass-produced clean energy technologies will be worth around $650 billion (about €600 billion) annually by 2030, more than three times today's levels. Associated energy manufacturing jobs are likely to more than double over the same period1. The global net-zero industry is growing strongly, with demand sometimes outstripping supply.
Against this backdrop of great opportunities and challenges, Europe needs a new Green Deal industrial plan. The plan will be part of the European Green Deal, which puts us on a path to climate neutrality and will put Europe at the global lead in the cyber-zero industrial era.
