Israel threatens countries that voted yes: you would do well to realize how serious the mistake is made

author:Ploughing cattle

After the new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict lasted for more than half a year, and more than 33,000 Palestinians died in Gaza, the Security Council's draft "proposing Palestine to join the United Nations" finally entered the voting session. According to the Observer, the voting results of the day showed that many countries supported Palestine's "accession to the United Nations", of which 12 voted in favor, Britain and Switzerland abstained from voting twice, and only the United States voted against. But this also means that Palestine's hope of joining the United Nations has been "vetoed" by the United States. So, how do we view the United States shouting in support of the "two-state solution" while denying the establishment of a Palestinian state? Let us interpret it through three topics.

Israel threatens countries that voted yes: you would do well to realize how serious the mistake is made

First, the United States' "one-vote veto" is directly supporting Israel's claims.

For many years, Israel has opposed the two-state solution and does not advocate Palestinian statehood, because only then can it gradually devour Palestine. Judging from the map, in the 1946 Palestinian-Israeli map, Israel was only an "embellishment", but by 2000, the two sides had completely switched sides, and Palestine had become an "embellishment".

More than 90 percent of Palestine's territory has been swallowed up by Israel. Even so, Israel continues to squeeze Palestinian living space in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

At present, the mainstream opinion of the international community is to support the "two-state solution", including the "P5" countries, China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, and France. It is believed that only when Palestine is established will the people be truly protected and Israel will not wantonly provoke. The United Nations is the largest international organization to which only sovereign States can join, and the proposal for Palestine to join the United Nations also means supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state and supporting it as a sovereign State. But unexpectedly, the United States pays lip service to support, but in action it is a completely different set.

In this regard, US Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Wood also quibbled that the United States continues to strongly support the "two-state solution" and that this vote is not against Palestinian statehood, but rather that Palestinian statehood can only be achieved through direct negotiations between the two sides. To put it bluntly, Palestine can only be state-like if Israel agrees. In this way, "Palestinian statehood" can only be a false proposition, and it is difficult to realize it, because it is impossible for Israel to nod its head at all.

Second, although the draft did not pass, the vote still showed a lot of ideas.

In addition to the P5 countries, the other 10 members of the Security Council are Japan, the Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Switzerland, Malta, Ecuador, Guyana, Algeria, Mozambique, and Sierra Leone. Nine of the 10 members voted in favour of the draft, including Slovenia, a dual member of NATO and the European Union, Japan and South Korea, non-NATO allies of the United States, and Ecuador and Guyana, which are "backyard" countries of the United States.

This also shows that even some allies of the United States hope for the establishment of a Palestinian state and for less conflict between Palestine and Israel. It is worth noting that Switzerland, which had previously voted in favor of the Palestinian-Israeli cease-fire draft, abstained this time, which is indeed unexpected. Perhaps, this is also to express the attitude of a "neutral country".

Of course, there is a "tacit understanding" between the United States and Britain, and after knowing that the United States will "veto it with one vote," Britain naturally does not have to come out to "offend people." However, "abstention" is actually an attitude, which expresses that it knows that the draft will not pass, and does not stand on the side of "approval."

It has to be said that France has stood with China and Russia again this time, and when it voted on the draft "Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire" on many occasions, France voted in favor of it together with China and Russia, and held the opposite view with the United States. This also shows that France deserves the title of "the only country in Europe that still has a sense of independence and sovereignty", and it must adhere to the international affairs that it believes it wants to support, even if the United States opposes it.

Third, China and Russia are straightforward, and Arab countries do not want to pay attention to Israel.

Regarding the "one-vote veto" of the United States, China and Russia expressed "disappointment" and "condemnation". As early as 13 years ago, Palestine proposed to join the United Nations, but after such a long time, it is still rejected by the United States. The Russian side believes that judging from the voting process, the United States is already in a "state of isolation," and the process of history cannot be stopped by the United States.

Contrary to the attitude of China and Russia, Israeli representative Erdan praised the US approach on the spot, holding that "Palestine has not met the criteria for joining the United Nations" and threatened that "your approval will only make Palestine more bold and reckless, making peace impossible."

I have to say that Israel has indeed taken its meanness to the extreme, clearly saying that it is the "stumbling block" to peace in the Middle East, indiscriminately killing innocent people in Gaza and bombing the embassies of other countries, but it can "speak eloquently" and say that it is a "victim" without blushing. After witnessing the tragic situation in Gaza and seeing Israel clearly, they may really think that the Israeli side's speech was "noise," and the representatives of the Arab countries could not bear it anymore, so they left their seats one after another from the scene of the Security Council and did not listen.
