In 2004, the first F1 Chinese Grand Prix was held in Jiading, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the F1 Chinese Grand Prix. In the past 20 years, there has been such a group of people who have grown up with the "Racing Feast" - they have been participating in the public meteorological service guarantee of F1 races since the first year of F1 China, and they are the meteorological forecasting service team from the Jiading District Meteorological Bureau.
Formula 1 is a data-driven sport. In order for a car to perform at its best in the race, the team's overall planning must be precise, for example, the use of dry/wet tyres requires decisions to be made in a matter of seconds. With very different track and weather conditions at each race, weather conditions are an important factor that F1 teams must consider when planning tactically. During the race, F1 will have an official weather support team to provide weather services for each team. While ensuring the weather in the stadium during the event, the Jiading District Meteorological Bureau provides meteorological decision-making support for the organizing committee from preliminary preparation to on-site competition, and also provides public meteorological services for the majority of fans.
In order to provide better weather services for the event, in 2009, the Jiading District Meteorological Bureau and Shanghai Jiushi Sports Event Management Company jointly established the Shanghai International Racing Meteorological Support Service Center, and built a comprehensive meteorological observation station in the racetrack, including a wind profile radar station and a set of 6-element automatic weather stations, which realized the minute-level monitoring of meteorological elements such as temperature, precipitation, wind direction and wind force in the racetrack.

While meteorological detection technology is developing rapidly, meteorological forecasting technology is also constantly improving. This year, the meteorological support service of the Jiading District Meteorological Bureau was launched as early as March 29. From 15-20 days in advance of the extended weather process forecast and 4-10 days of medium-term weather forecast, to 1-3 days of short-term forecast, and then to hour-by-hour short-term nowcasting warning, the relevant weather forecasting services have lasted for more than half a month. The whole-process, seamless and progressive meteorological service provides important support for the relevant decision-making of the event organizers. During the race from the 19th to the 21st, the Jiading District Meteorological Bureau stationed at the race site, set up meteorological mobile observation equipment around the venue, carried out face-to-face interpretation of meteorological information, and fully escorted the smooth progress of the race through the service mode of "front shop and back factory", so that the "galloping" on the F1 field had no worries.
