Four articles from the Peking University Department of Urology and Andrology have been cited in the 2024 European Urological Association (EAU) guidelines (EAU-Guidelines-on-Sexual-and-Reproductive-Health-2024).
The EAU and AUA guidelines are the most frequently referenced and cited international guidelines for urological andrologists, and the EAU guidelines are updated every year with reference to new literature developments, and new conclusions, new perspectives and new concepts are constantly added. The EAU Sexual and Reproductive Health Guidelines include erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, male infertility, etc., and 2 of the 4 articles cited by the Peking University urology and andrology team are related to premature ejaculation and 2 are related to male reproduction.
In the section of the EAU guideline, the results of a multi-center phase IV clinical trial published by the urology and andrology team of Peking University pointed out that the treatment effect of dapoxetine for primary and secondary premature ejaculation is similar, and the common side effects are dose-dependent.
The premature ejaculation section of the guideline also cites the results of a real-world study by the urology and andrology team at Peking University, which states that the main reasons for early discontinuation of the drug in patients with premature ejaculation are poor results, side effects, and low frequency of sex. For the first time, the number of tics was used as an evaluation index for premature ejaculation in clinical practice to make up for the shortcomings of previous subjective evaluation.
Since its establishment in 2005, the team of the Department of Urology and Andrology of Peking University has begun to explore microsurgical techniques for the treatment of male infertility, and has published a total of 14 articles, some of which have been cited 176 times by the library of Peking University Hospital.
The male infertility section of the 2024EAU guidelines cites data published in Fertility and Sterility by the urology and andrology team of Peking University in 2015, which shows that natural pregnancy can be achieved from 6 to 12 months after microspermatic vein ligation, of course, with the extension of follow-up time, the natural pregnancy rate is higher, and the overall pregnancy rate can reach 45.5% in 2 years.
For patients with acquired epididymal obstruction and normal reproductive function of their spouses, guidelines recommend microscopic vasectomy epididymal anastomosis, which can achieve high recanalization and pregnancy rates. An article published in Human Production in 2017 by the Peking University Department of Urology and Andrology demonstrated that microsurgery is the first choice for patients with epididymal obstruction through a large sample size.
These four clinical papers have been consecutively cited in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 EAU guidelines. At present, the urology andrology team of Peking University is working on 3 general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 2 general projects of the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and has established a long-term scientific research cooperation mechanism with the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Basic Research of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
