Han Han: Chinese education

Because I have not studied much else, and people still speak in their own more authoritative fields, I will talk about language first.

There is a big problem with language.

First of all, it is a course that basically does not need to exist after junior high school. But having to exist again is the biggest problem.

After teaching people to read and choose words and sentences, language has no reason to exist. Don't say that the language should cultivate people's written expression ability, you don't look at those students who seem to be very poor in writing, as if they really have to learn the language well, in fact, they are writing love letters behind their backs, and the reason why they write poorly is because of the problem of composition, not the problem of writing ability.

Writing ability is a very basic ability, those who can't write an essay and don't hand in homework, they will definitely come up with all kinds of logical reasons to explain why they didn't write an essay, and look directly into the teacher's eyes and lie without their heartbeat accelerating, which shows that this person has a strong ability to express, as long as he can write down what he just said, it is a good essay.

The point is, no one feels like it's an essay. Composition is a pattern, just like telling an official lie, there must be a time, a person, and a place, and especially a theme that is uplifting. For example, after I finish recording an incident, I have no right to feel confused about it, I don't have the right to feel that life is really meaningless because of it, in short, I can't tell the truth, it's just complete nonsense.

I have this article in "Poison", the full text of which is as follows:

Yesterday I bought some pears and strange-looking little mangoes in Heping, which are so expensive that I have to consider them when I buy them, but I still bought a lot of them. When I go home and eat it, it's delicious, and I'm going to buy it tomorrow.

The name of the article is "Delicious Fruits", and many people speculate about the significance of this article, some people say they don't understand it, and some people say it's a good article. In fact, the central idea of the article is: these fruits are really delicious. What the article wants to tell you is that even if a student writes "Dream of Red Mansions", it is only an assignment, but once he has a little fame, even if he writes something as boring and nonsense as the above, it is art. I've just written a few books that sell very well, and if the above things were written by Lu Xun, it would be even farther away, and how many people would have to see the political turmoil from them.

Therefore, in the case of smooth sentences and not many typos that affect reading, there is no standard for judging whether the article is good or bad.

I took a random piece of Zhu Ziqing's essay and handed it in, and no teacher would think that his students' writing essays were good enough to be famous, and they would still make a lot of revisions.

Of course, the highest level of literature is how the work is, but before this realm, I think the key is not how well the article is written, but who wrote the article. I really don't believe that the gap between the highest and lowest level of writing in a class can be as big as the best and worst.

A person is not qualified to judge that A's essay is excellent and B's essay fails. I can only say that I like A's essay and don't like B's essay, or rather, A's essay is about the same as what is required in the syllabus, and B's is a bit far behind. Therefore, it is suggested that the future essay grading should be cancelled from good and bad, and changed to "just what I want", "not far behind", "reference outline", and "those who go against me die".

Student essays in China have always been boring because the propositions are so small. For example, to give you a story, the story goes like this:

When the two climbers were climbing the mountain, they tied them together with ropes because of the heavy wind and snow, but A stumbled and slipped down, and because there was a rope dragging them, they did not fall off the cliff, but neither B nor the rope could bear such a large weight. B said: A, if you hold on, I will definitely save you. But A himself cut the rope, fell off the cliff, and died. B climbed the mountain on his own.

Ask what comes to mind after reading this story, and write an essay of more than 800 words.

After I read this story, the first thing that came to mind was how B explained to A's family, but I definitely can't write this, if you want to get a high score, you must think of the same thing as the person who came out with the reference answer, of course, you may think that you yourself also like outdoor sports, fancy a pair of shoes in the outdoor sports store, but it is too expensive, the last time I went to bargain and didn't cut it, I told my parents and I don't know if they give this money. It is more likely that the first thing that comes to someone's mind after reading the article is that this essay must have been written badly.

But no, this is off topic.

Digression means that you shouldn't think that way. To put it bluntly, you are different from what I thought, and your essay is not a good essay.

Secondly, the style of argumentative essay is a very backward style that should not exist, because there is nothing to discuss at all, since there is only one standard, then argumentative fart. And in my vague memory, there is a formula for argumentative essays, what arguments and arguments are there, and they can't be reversed, and they must quote the original text in the material, and have celebrity stories that they have seen or made up by themselves, what Marie Curie forgot to sleep and eat, Newton was not ignorant, Edison gave up his studies for the sake of family affection, anyway, half of it had to be made up by himself, this time it was Edison, and next time the same thing will be changed to Galileo. You can make things up yourself, but people must be famous. Newton is an example, but the uncle who lives next door is not an example. Finally, I would like to reiterate my point of view regarding the reference answer to my own speculation. The article is boring and boring, and it is not something that ordinary people can read. It's not easy for teachers to read dozens of articles at once, and they can still distinguish the advantages and disadvantages. Anyway, when I got to that job, I could only give grades based on who wrote the handwriting well.

Finally, be sure to write at least 800 words about this. Actually, I really want to end the above story with a sentence of "A is really brave", but it doesn't work. Anyone who has written an essay knows that having nothing to say is the most painful, and the article made up in this way is very painful for both the person who writes it and the person who reads it. I really don't understand what's wrong with me being able to say only 600 words about a thing?

I once received a letter from a reader about a Chinese test paper from their school, which contained a chapter of one of my essays, entitled "Seeking Medical Treatment", and then eight multiple-choice questions. I never thought that my essay would be selected for the exam paper, so I completed the exam paper very carefully, only to find that I had only done three multiple-choice questions correctly. One of them was what word should be filled in the line drawing, and I accidentally chose the wrong word. The most ridiculous thing is that I actually chose the wrong meaning of the author of the line sentence.

I really don't understand why the Chinese language likes to disassemble other people's essays word by word, and forcibly add the opinions of later generations, or the opinions of the people who wrote the topic, when students put forward different opinions, some people will say: Wrong, the author is not trying to express this meaning. Moreover, eighty percent of the authors of the selected articles died in the last century, and there is really no proof of death.

However, this is the greatest disrespect for the dead man who wrote the article all his life. Just like Leslie Cheung died, there is no point in speculating about the cause of his death, he must have his own ideas, none of us know, so no one is qualified to judge. Seriously, who knows what Lu Xun meant when he wrote that there was a jujube tree in front of my house, and there was another jujube tree, maybe it didn't mean anything, and he wanted to play with the ticket, or he suddenly remembered that there was another one after writing one. I don't dare to say anyway, because I don't know.

If you really want to come up with such a question, then the answer must be infinite, except for those who don't know and are obscene and reactionary, there are points when you think of it, for example, if you write an answer that suddenly remembers that the other is still a jujube tree, it should also be a full score.

When I wrote "Triple Gate", there were two "lonely faces dissolving in the sunset", and once at the end. What does the author want to express? Why do you use it twice in a row? Does it echo before and after to reflect the loneliness of the protagonist? The answer given by the author is that the author thinks this sentence is very good, but because the writing time is too long, he forgot to use it once before when he wrote it to the end, so he accidentally used it again.

There are some characters in my novel "Like a Teenager Flying Away", but they have never been explained again, why?

Is it because this reflects the vagaries and vicissitudes of life, many lives are flashed like passers-by, and they can't leave traces in life and feel helpless?

No.

It's because "Like a Boy Flying Away" is written paragraph by paragraph, the author didn't make a draft, and some people forgot to make it after writing it.

Answer "I lost my writing" as a perfect score.

I have participated in many school essay competitions, and the difference in grades is outrageous. Unlike now, I can basically write what I want to express now, and I have reached the point of loving whoever I want, but at that time, when I put down some words and phrases, I also had to consider whether the above tutors liked them, these are small things, although I am not very comfortable in my heart, but others can rarely find out, and it does not hurt the overall image, just like wearing a pair of socks that I extremely disgust to go to the street. But sometimes I wonder if my point of view is liked by others, or I can express it tactfully or even change it to a far cry.

It's really tiring to write essays like this. I feel like a massage lady, and I have to constantly consider whether the customer is comfortable or uncomfortable while working hard. After the competition, I usually ranked third. But there's nothing to be sad about at all, because if you look at the first prize article, it's basically a category of false feelings.

In conclusion, I think:

Composition is something independent of literature. Unless one day your school's students know that they can win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Many people believe that if you want to write a good article, you must read a lot of books, and to become a master, you must read a lot of books. I think this must have been said by someone who never wrote a good article. I think this view is wrong, just like if you want to be in the national team, you have to watch more football games. I can guarantee that our national football team rarely gets up in the middle of the night just to watch a Bundesliga game when they are not betting on football, because that is the behavior of the fans. I think it's the same, reading a lot of books is just the behavior of a literature lover, and you may know a lot of things, and even know what the writing style of many writers in the corner is like, and what awards have been won in the corner, but at best, they are just the two who know everything in a televised ball game, and even see Beckham blurt out a pass from the same ball thirteen years ago, and the same ball was passed in the same position in what game. The real beauty is played on it.

Therefore, in literature, the higher the education, the more books you read, and in the end, you can only be a literary critic.

Still, I recommend that students below the university level read whatever book they can read, because at that age, how much they can read is not too much.

When I actually wrote what I wanted to express, I found that the school did not help me in any way except for making me literate, and the Chinese education above junior high school, including the analysis of countless masterpieces. I really want to write something, unlike writing argumentative essays when I was in school, and I desperately think about how to add a little celebrity short story or aphorism, and really good writing doesn't need to give examples to play with data when convincing people, let alone celebrity quotes. Celebrities sometimes talk nonsense, or when they say it right, but they say it wrong. Many people, no matter what they write or debate, like to take out some of the words of a man who died seven or eight centuries ago and want to be a legal envoy.

Some people like to say when they teach me: Confucius said what Confucius said, Confucius said, but what Confucius said has nothing to do with what I am going to do or what I have done? The ancestors were also very pitiful, and many of their words were quoted, not because they respected them, but because they happened to think the same as themselves, and they used these words to refute or criticize a person who thought differently from their own.

In short, the patterns of writing and ways of thinking that I learned in school are just for the purpose of finally getting a diploma. But if you are deeply rooted, even if you are a doctorate, you will only take a few more exams than an average high school student. In other words, you understand how "Gone with the Wind" was written better than the author, but you can't write "Gone with the Wind". I just hope that every student can retain their authentic side. It doesn't have to be revealed a lot of times. A lot of what is taught in school is because there are too many people to consider, and for yourself, there is only one. After the play, people are still too involved in the play, and they can only be a play.

We have been learning Chinese since primary school, when Chinese was the most important subject, in fact, we should not judge too much about how Chinese is taught in primary school, because no matter how it is, by the time I am in junior high school, I can basically recognize and see most of the words, which is already very good, and second, I have forgotten how I learned it at that time.

However, the Chinese language education model of Chinese primary schools seems to have been used in junior high and high schools, and the Chinese education in junior high schools has become less important. Ever since the teaching of literacy, language has been a course that has shackled the imagination. What is especially ridiculous is the memorization and dictation of some so-called wonderful passages.

First of all, I don't think any of those wonderful passages are brilliant.

Secondly, even if it is wonderful, there is no need to memorize it.

The point is, if this is considered a kind of memory training, it is fine, but it is often used for various reasons. I think that in any case, many of my above sentences are more wonderful than the almost 800 Chinese characters that I am required to memorize in the textbook, but even if it is so wonderful, I as the author myself cannot memorize it at all. So one can imagine how painful it was for the students at that time.

What's even more difficult to understand is that the memorized content often has to appear in the reading analysis of the test paper, and deliberately hollows out some places for you to fill in the words, of course, you can't play it yourself, even if you think of language that is 100 times better than the original words. Not only that, but the hollowed-out words are generally outrageous: the words that should be filled in the lines in the text are "unexpectedly" or "unexpectedly".

I think that after so many years of language training, students can get high marks for students, teachers, reference answers, and even mentally handicapped people who give a memorized passage to "analyze" during the exam, but the author of the original text himself fails.

But because there were a lot of things that were more boring than a tree to be memorized in the political class, the content of the Chinese recitation was compared.

The point that reciting this thing doesn't make sense or help is that I don't remember anything now. It's not because I haven't been in school for four years. I swear that I don't remember anything about language, politics, history, or when the October Revolution broke out in the Soviet Union, except for some formulas that I could memorize four years ago. I recited countless times before the exam, when so-and-so was born, what events happened in what month and day, and ended their life cycle after the exam. It's not that I have a bad memory or deliberately exaggerated, forgive me for remembering that the October Revolution took place in October.

I think most mortals should be like me, we do memorize these things, but what does that mean, it means that we have forgotten it after a week? Whether it is the class leader or any study committee member, no one treats these things as if they really like them, the lyrics of your favorite songs in my life, the words you and I confessed to others for the first time or the words of others when we were abandoned for the first time.

If you can't remember it, you can't remember it.

The position of the Chinese teacher in the school is actually very sympathetic. Because I don't care whether middle and higher mathematics has practical significance for ordinary people in real life or whether physical education has almost no status in the school's large-scale examinations, I think if I am a Chinese teacher, I will definitely envy the mathematics teacher who can calculate the area or volume of an unshaped object, even if I can quickly know that Xiaoming's hen lays three eggs in two days, Xiaohong's hen lays nine eggs in six days, and it will be long before two chickens can lay the same number of eggs, or I will envy the physical education teacher who can throw such a heavy shot put more than ten meters away, but I have nothing to excel at。 I can't analyze an article in front of anyone to show myself. I can only hope that I have a good hand.

In the hearts of many people, it seems that the Chinese teacher is kinder than the mathematics teacher, maybe I think that Chinese should be a very tolerant subject, but to the point where it has developed to the point, we can't just say that it is the responsibility of the teacher, or the responsibility of the education committee, the students are also responsible, and there are many people who should be responsible for this, because a good thing is often a person can do it casually, but a bad thing requires the concerted efforts of all kinds of people from all walks of life to complete.
