Since the city launched the recruitment of rural revitalization coordinators in 2019, nearly 2,000 aspiring young people have been enriched to the frontline of rural grassroots to serve the rural development of the capital.

Lian Guoxuan, an assistant for rural revitalization in Limugou Village, Qingshui Town, Mentougou District, Beijing, said in an interview with China News Service that he majored in finance, but after graduating in 2020, he failed to apply for civil servants, career establishments and banks. After seeing the recruitment announcement for the Rural Revitalization Coordinator, he grew up in Mentougou Mountain Village and decided to give it a try. After successfully entering the job, Lian Guoxuan actively participated in the development of rural industries with his love for his hometown. Liu Yuzhu and Lian Guoxuan both said that the work of the Rural Revitalization Coordinator has brought them a lot of opportunities and growth, and they also deeply realized that this job is related to the well-being of the villagers, and it is not easy to do it well.
How does this job work?
According to the public information of the Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, the main responsibilities of the rural revitalization assistant are to assist in strengthening rural party building, developing characteristic industries, building beautiful villages, improving the level of governance, and serving and ensuring the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy.
"Specifically, it means that all the village affairs of the village must be involved. Liu Yuzhu said that the aging of villagers living in rural areas is very obvious, and most of the young people have gone out. After Liu Yuzhu arrived, the Mentougou District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau organized the training of Internet marketers for rural revitalization assistants, using the Internet marketing knowledge he learned, he ran the village collective farm prosperously, and also publicized the undeveloped Tianquan Temple in the village and its Dishui Rock "Lingyan Range Rover" and other famous attractions through the production of short videos, and the sharp increase in tourists made cherries and other village specialties become sought-after goods, and some even doubled the price.
Nowadays, the development of scenic spots in the village has also been put on the agenda.

Liu Yuzhu said that his greatest wish during his five-year tenure is to achieve the revitalization of the village industry and the substantial increase in the income of the villagers through the development of scenic spots.
Lian Guoxuan's experience has many similarities with Liu Yuzhu, from being unfamiliar with the villagers at the beginning, unable to start with the work, and at a loss, to now the villagers regard them as their own family. The key is to do practical things for the villagers, do real things, and rush to the front in everything.
Lian Guoxuan said that during the flood in 2023, he and the young and middle-aged people organized by the two village committees went up the mountain to change the waterway, and together with the first secretary of the village and the officers and soldiers, he walked for more than two hours with supplies on his back to check on the villagers who had been disconnected.

In addition, he usually serves the villagers, and together with the two village committees, he has brought special products such as tofu, vermicelli, and miscellaneous grains to the market. These works have enabled Lian Guoxuan and Liu Yuzhu to gain the trust of the villagers, even in the face of the most difficult mediation of villagers' conflicts.
Who can do the job?
Judging from the content of the official recruitment information, the job of rural revitalization coordinator not only has requirements for region, age, political literacy, work ability, etc., but also emphasizes the need to "be interested in taking root in the countryside and serving rural revitalization".
Liu Yuzhu believes that it is not easy to be a rural revitalization coordinator, and the specific work is trivial, trivial and heavy. This requires strong communication skills, a special ability to endure hardships, and a love of rural work from the heart.
Wei Yuhui, who served as the first secretary of the sixth batch of villages in Limugou Village, Qingshui Town, from December 2021 to January 2024, said in an interview with China News Service that it is not easy for fresh graduates to take root in the countryside and work for five years with peace of mind, and it is even more difficult to integrate into the countryside and make certain achievements among farmers.
Wei Yuhui said that the first secretary is more to plan and formulate the development direction with the two village committees, and integrate resources. More implementation work is carried out by rural revitalization coordinators, which is more efficient. In order for the peasants to live a good life, it is very necessary for these university graduates who have the knowledge, ability, passion, and willingness to take root in the rural areas. Appropriate consideration may be given to providing some opportunities and guarantees for rural revitalization coordinators who have a long-term willingness to work in rural areas, are widely recognized by villagers, and have made certain achievements.
As of the end of 2023, there are 135 rural revitalization coordinators in Mentougou District, distributed in more than 100 villages in 9 towns in the district, a staff member of the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Mentougou District, Beijing, said in an interview with China News Service. Nearly 90% are aged 25 and below, 96.67% have a bachelor's degree or above, and there are 29 professional categories, and the talent team structure is further younger, diversified and professional.
This youth team has played an active and leading role in helping to strengthen rural party building, develop characteristic industries, build beautiful villages, improve governance, serve and ensure the implementation of rural revitalization strategies, as well as emergency rescue and disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction.
