When Li Yu succeeded to the throne, the Southern Tang Dynasty was already a corner of the south of the Yangtze River, the court was weak, the country was in ruins, and strong enemies were around. Song Taizu sent edicts to summon him to the north many times, but Li Yu's weak temperament and his loss of life made him unable to refuse.
