On April 16, the Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development issued the "Notice on Doing a Good Job in the Construction of the Second Batch of Provincial Urban Renewal Pilot Areas", identifying 20 districts as the second batch of provincial urban renewal pilot areas, and Rencheng Canal Memory Area was selected.

The Canal Memory Urban Renewal Project takes the ancient canal as the axis, takes market life, religious culture and canal folk trade as the theme, takes the protection and inheritance of canal culture as the main line, integrates the water system of the old canal and the river in the old city, and forms a characteristic urban renewal project integrating historical and cultural heritage, sightseeing, tourism, cultural experience, fashion and leisure, and cultural and museum shopping through the careful layout and construction of "one river and two banks, three streets and six lanes, four museums and five points", and makes every effort to launch the cultural brand of "Canal City" and reproduce the "Jining Scenic Spot" of the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal”。
In the next step, the two levels of the urban area will further improve the construction plan of the pilot area, increase policy exploration, mechanism innovation, project building and other work, sort out the status quo and protection and utilization of immovable cultural relics, historical buildings and traditional buildings in the area, refine the work promotion nodes, improve the level of project implementation, and promote the creation of projects such as night tours of Nan'an Street Pedestrian Street, water tours, canal theaters, and façade renovation of Nan'an Street, so as to make the block a gathering place for folk customs and a carrying place for characteristic tourism. A destination for urban leisure and a meeting room that showcases the culture of Jining's "City of Canals".
