After that, the British built the city of Kingston, which gradually established it as the central city of Jamaica.

The coat of arms of Jamaica was designed by William Sancroft, Archbishop of Canterbury, in 1661. A white ground with a red cross in the center and five pineapples painted on it. The national motto is written on the ribbon: "Excellence, a nation".
