Li Dong, member of the Standing Committee of the Rongchang District Party Committee and executive deputy head of the district government, introduced that the International Symposium on Antimicrobial Reduction Path and Sustainable Development of Animal Husbandry is another international professional event in the animal husbandry industry held in Rongchang District after the 10th China Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Forum and the 2023 International Symposium on Animal Environment and Welfare Breeding were successfully held last year.
The seminar was co-sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the People's Government of Rongchang District, Chongqing, co-organized by the Chongqing Academy of Animal Science and the National Swine Technology Innovation Center, co-organized by the National Animal Health and Food Safety Innovation Alliance, and supported by the Chongqing Municipal Agriculture and Rural Committee, Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, and Chongqing Science and Technology Association. The symposium will mainly include the opening ceremony, keynote speeches, special reports, conference discussions, initiative launches and five-party talks, with the theme of "Reducing Antimicrobial Dependence and Demand for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems Transformation", and will focus on the path of antimicrobial reduction in the livestock sector. Experience and measures to reduce the demand for antimicrobials in livestock production, exchange ideas of antimicrobial reduction to support sustainable livestock development, share implementation methods, and seek consensus on the path and measures for the reduction of the use of antimicrobials.
During the conference, 25 animal health experts, One Health experts, food safety experts, and young scholars will make presentations and share their experiences in reducing the use of antibiotics in their organizations, countries and regions. Three well-known experts from home and abroad delivered keynote speeches on topics such as the global impact and situation of antimicrobial resistance, and the role of microorganisms in the green development of agriculture, and fully exchanged R&D achievements and practical experience in their respective fields. At the same time, we will carefully organize face-to-face exchanges between academicians and experts and enterprises to build a bridge for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements at home and abroad, accelerate the development of new quality productivity, and better serve the development of the animal husbandry industry.
Li Dong also said that in September this year, a high-level meeting on drug resistance will be held during the United Nations General Assembly. The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will focus on the proceedings of the meeting in his address to the General Assembly, and the outcome of the meeting will be reflected in the documents of the General Assembly.

Antimicrobial resistance not only leads to the gradual ineffectiveness of antimicrobial doses, but also leads to the emergence of incurable multidrug-resistant microorganisms, and bacterial resistance has become a major global public health challenge.
According to incomplete statistics, in 2019 alone, bacterial antibiotic resistance caused more than 1.2 million deaths, and more than 5 million indirect deaths as a result. In 2022, 13 departments, including the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, jointly issued the National Action Plan for the Containment of Microbial Resistance (2022-2025), which adopts a comprehensive management strategy and comprehensive and effective management to effectively promote the reduction and prudent use of antimicrobial drugs, and ensure the production safety, food safety, public health safety and ecological safety of the aquaculture industry.
