The world's No. 1 league is not worthy of its name, don't think about extra tickets to the Champions League
Bernato Silva and Mateo Kovacic missed penalties to put an end to Manchester City's dream of defending the Champions League title and make the world's No. 1 league look unworthy of its name. In fact, Liverpool, West Ham and Villa are also likely to repeat the mistakes of the past, leaving Premier League sides wiped out in the same round of European competition.
Failed to reach the semi-finals 6 times in 12 years
The Champions League quarter-finals can be seen as a duel between the Premier League giants and the traditional Champions League giants, however, in such a head-to-head matchup, both Manchester City, which aims to defend their title, and Arsenal, who are desperate, have lost to Real Madrid and Bayern.
In the past 10 years, Real Madrid has reached the semi-finals of the Champions League eight times, Bayern has been in second place with five times, followed by Manchester City (four times) and Liverpool (three times).
Because of the influence of other factors, many clubs in La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 have encountered financial problems in the past five seasons, which has also led to Premier League teams winning the Champions League three times, however, Bayern and Real Madrid each lifted the Big Ears trophy once, breaking their "monopoly".
In the heyday of La Liga, Real Madrid and Barcelona once won the championship 8 times in 10 seasons. Not only that, but since the 2012-13 season, Premier League teams have failed to reach the last four of the Champions League for five seasons, and have failed to reach the last four twice in the last five seasons.
The three teams may repeat the mistakes of the past
Not only in the Champions League, but also in other European competitions. In the Europa League, Liverpool and West Ham entered the quarterfinals, but in the first leg, Liverpool lost 0-3 at home, and West Ham lost 0-2 away to Bayer Leverkusen, and both are very likely to be out.
The only Premier League team to be on track to progress to the last four is Villa, who beat Lille 2-1 at home in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-finals and will play away in the second leg. Is the Premier League just a "paper tiger"?

Don't think about the 5th Champions League ticket
With Manchester City and Arsenal knocked out of the Champions League and Liverpool, West Ham and Villa likely to repeat the mistakes of the past, it will be difficult for England to overtake Germany in terms of European coefficients. At the moment, England only has 17.000 points, while the top two places are Italy and Germany with 18.857 and 17.642 points respectively.
With only Atalanta and Fiorentina both qualified, Serie A will secure the top two Champions League places and five Champions League places next season. Only three more wins for the remaining three Bundesliga teams will secure an extra Champions League ticket next season.
If the Premier League wants to get one more ticket, it will have to hope that West Ham, Liverpool will come back to qualify, or Villa will eventually lift the Europa League. However, their goals may be dashed by Thursday.
