In order to carry forward the noble spirit of the revolutionary pioneers, inherit the red gene, and inspire the majority of party members, cadres and the masses to forge ahead and continue to struggle, on April 16, Xuzhou District carried out activities to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of martyr Yu Hongwen in the Martyrs Memorial Park.
Yu Hongwen was born in 1904 and was originally a native of Guanyinchang, Yibin County. In 1919, he studied at the Xuzhou Union County High School. In the autumn of 1925, he was elected as the chairman of the delegation of the Guanyin District Agricultural Association. In September 1929, he served as the commander-in-chief of the peasant uprising in Data. He has successively served as a member of the Yibin County Party Committee, an alternate member of the Action Committee of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, an alternate member of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, the secretary of the Chengdu Dongcheng District Party Committee, the secretary of the Qiongda Special Economic Zone District Committee, and the commander of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Guerrilla Brigade in the Sichuan-Kangbian area. In December 1934, he was arrested as a traitor. In the spring of 1935, Yu Hongwen was poisoned by the enemy and died in prison at the age of 31.
In front of the statue of the martyr Yu Hongwen, everyone bowed to the martyr with admiration and reverence, presented flowers, and paid homage to the martyr's tomb. The student representatives of Guanyin Town recited poems commemorating the martyr Yu Hongwen. Subsequently, everyone visited the calligraphy and painting works made by the people, teachers and students of Guanyin Town to commemorate the martyr Yu Hongwen.
At the symposium to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of martyr Yu Hongwen, the participants conducted in-depth discussions on how to further promote the national spirit, inherit the red gene, and continue the red blood. Everyone expressed that they should draw spiritual strength from the precious spiritual wealth left by the martyrs, base themselves on their posts, be down-to-earth, take responsibility, and move forward bravely on the new journey.
Xiao Ping, member of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee and Minister of the Propaganda Department, heads of the Party History Research Office of the District Party Committee, the District Veterans Affairs Bureau, Guanyin Town and other relevant units, as well as the relatives of martyr Yu Hongwen attended the commemorative activities.
