As soon as I arrived at the small garden downstairs, I saw that more than a dozen elderly people were sitting on chairs chatting with great interest about today's "big event". It turned out that today was the start date of the second phase of the elevator installation in Dujiakan No. 44 Yard, where they were located. In less than half a year, all buildings in the courtyard will be able to "one-click direct" downstairs.
The site of the groundbreaking ceremony
Dujiakan No. 44 Courtyard is a military retirement compound built in the 90s of the twentieth century, belonging to the 13th Military Rest House in Fengtai District, with a quiet environment and 8 6-story residential buildings. According to Yu Fei, director of the 13th Military Retirement Institute, in recent years, the aging problem of military retired cadres in the No. 44 courtyard has become more and more serious. By this year, there are 89 retired military cadres in No. 44 Hospital, 55 of whom are over 90 years old, with an average age of 89.5 years. The multi-storey walking staircase has brought great difficulties to the elderly to travel, and the majority of residents have asked for the installation of elevators over the years.
The elevator in Dujiakan No. 44 has been put into use
After many efforts, in December 2023, 10 elevators in Courtyard 44 were completed and put into use. "It was rare to come down before. If you want to bask in the sun and move around, you have to hold on to the handrail step by step, and it takes more than ten minutes to go down from the 6th floor. It's convenient to install the elevator, you can come down in ten seconds, and I now come down twice a day. Mr. Du, 85, smiled when he mentioned the elevator.
"I have sat on all the newly installed elevators more than once, and I feel that the quality is guaranteed and the safety is guaranteed. Looking at the brand-new elevator, Bao Lichun's eyes were full of envy. Not only Bao Lichun, but also the owners of the remaining 6 units who have not yet installed elevators are also envious, and have found the dry rest house to ask when the second phase of the project will start. Finally, at the end of December last year, No. 44 Hospital obtained the confirmation of the installation of the second batch of 6 elevators, and officially started construction today.
"As the main body of the construction party, the most important thing for us is to control the quality, strictly follow the regulatory requirements of departments at all levels, and construct according to the drawings, so as to ensure quality, quantity and time. We hope to take the first phase of the project as an important reference, and strive to make the second phase of the project better and faster, and help more veteran comrades travel conveniently. It is understood that the second phase of the elevator installation project is expected to be completed and accepted by the end of September 2024, and the "Eleventh" will be put into use. This also means that by then, the elderly in Dujiakan No. 44 Courtyard will realize the "elevator dream".
