On April 17, the 2024 Paris Olympics will usher in a 100-day countdown to the opening. French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview on the 15th that if the security risk is too high, the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on July 26 may be abandoned on the Seine.
Moving the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games from a traditional stadium to an open urban space was originally an imaginative design by the Paris Organising Committee. But from the very beginning of the plan, on-site security became the biggest problem for the organizers. The increased risk of potential terrorist attacks in France is also a factor that the organizing committee and the French government have to consider. On April 15, Macron reaffirmed his confidence in the success of the opening ceremony, but also said that alternative plans are being studied in view of possible security risks.
French President Emmanuel Macron: If there is too much security risk at that time, we are also looking at alternatives at the same time. There may be restrictions on the number of people, the opening ceremony will be held at the Trocadero Square, or even the Stade de France instead.
According to reports, in the next period of time, the preparations for the Paris Olympics will enter the final sprint stage. At present, some competition venues have begun to take shape. In the Seine-Saint-Denis department on the northern outskirts of Paris, the Olympic Aquatics Centre has been inaugurated at the Paris Olympic Games, which will host synchronized swimming, diving and water polo competitions during the Paris Games, with a capacity of more than 5,000 spectators.
At the Champ de Mars in Paris, workers are stepping up to build bleachers, where judo and wrestling competitions will be held for the Paris Olympics. At the Palace of Versailles, workers are putting the finishing touches on a temporary venue in the palace gardens, where equestrian competitions will be held. The athletes' apartments in the Olympic Village are ready, and the construction of various restaurants in the Olympic Village is underway.
