On April 16, the results of the "Yangtze River Sturgeon Spawning Ground Transformation and Natural Reproduction Experiment" led by Du Hao, a researcher at the Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, passed the expert appraisal in Jiang'an County, Sichuan Province.

More than 50 expert representatives from the Yangtze River Basin Fishery Supervision and Management Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Branch of the National Wildlife Conservation Association, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and other governments, agricultural departments and scientific research units attended the meeting.

According to the theoretical model of the natural reproduction demand of Yangtze sturgeon, the spawning grounds of Yangtze sturgeon were transformed by means of flow rate construction, riverbed sediment improvement, and water temperature control.

Through the monitoring and verification of fertilized egg collection statistics and in-situ incubation, the natural breeding and spawning of Yangtze sturgeon is about 480,000, the proportion of female sturgeon participation is about 22.5%, and the fertilization rate is 83%.

After listening to the technical report, the experts conducted an in-depth discussion and exchange on the technical route, implementation effect, problems and challenges of the Yangtze sturgeon spawning ground transformation and natural reproduction test, and systematically evaluated and identified the results of the spawning ground transformation and natural reproduction test in natural waters. The expert group unanimously agreed that this experiment is another important achievement on the basis of the successful regulation and reproduction of Yangtze sturgeon in natural waters in 2023, which fills a key link in the reconstruction of the wild population of Yangtze sturgeon, and provides important theoretical and technical support for the in-situ habitat transformation and wild population restoration of Yangtze sturgeon.
