A few days ago, SAIC Volkswagen's new Tiguan L Pro advertised itself as a "smart subversive of fuel vehicles".

Change the name

The new Tiguan L Pro has the same two exterior sets as before, the Pioneer front and the R-Line sports front, and the new car will have a younger look compared to the current Tiguan L.

The dimensions of the Tiguan L Pro have not changed much from the previous Tiguan L, with the same wheelbase and a slight increase in length, width and height.

In terms of power, according to information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the power part of the new car is basically the same as that of the current Tiguan L. The 1.5T 300TSI variant has been cancelled, while the 2.0T 330TSI and 380TSI have been retained, with the 380TSI variant being a four-wheel drive variant.

It is worth mentioning that the overseas version of the model will also be available in 1.5T+48V and plug-in hybrid versions, and the domestic model is also expected to be launched in the future.

Inside, the Tiguan L Pro has changed its conservative style. The new car uses a combination of a 15-inch central display + a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and offers a HUD function.

It is worth mentioning that it is also one of the few models in the joint venture car equipped with the 8155 chip. Compared with the overseas version, Volkswagen also "intimately" added an additional 11.6-inch co-pilot entertainment screen to it.

The most complained about lever on the old Tiguan has also been removed and replaced with the same pocket gear design on the Volkswagen ID. series. The original gear area has been turned into a knob with a screen, somewhat similar to a smartwatch, which can be used to control volume, vehicle mode, etc.

SAIC Volkswagen cooperated with DJI Automotive this time to equip it with high-end intelligent driving functions, you must know that in the current market, there are almost zero mainstream fuel vehicles equipped with this function.

Specifically, the Tiguan L Pro is equipped with the IQ. Pilot intelligent assisted driving, in terms of hardware, this system adopts a pure vision scheme, with a computing power of up to 100TOPS, which can realize a series of functions such as lever lane change, intelligent plugging response, close following, and intelligent obstacle avoidance.

With this system, the Tiguan L Pro is one of the smartest gasoline vehicles on the market today.

SAIC Volkswagen even made a bold statement at the press conference that this new car is comparable to the Q7 and X5 of high-end brands in terms of intelligence, and even crushed the Q3 and X1 that are positioned one level higher in some aspects, boasting that it is "the most intelligent fuel vehicle within 800,000".

So, not to mention the distant BBA, will the upgraded Tiguan L Pro be more competitive than its competitors in the same class?

How to choose

Here we select two models with prices similar to the current Tiguan L, namely the Audi Q3 and the BYD Tang DM-i, and choose the top-of-the-line version to see which one is the most competitive.

First of all, compared to its big brother Audi Q3, the Tiguan L Pro has the same powertrain as it, but it will be much larger than the Q3 in terms of size, more space in the rear, and it is expected to offer the same 7-seat layout as the current model.

Compared to the Tiguan L Pro, the Tang DM-i is a little bigger than the Tiguan L Pro, and it also offers a 7-seat layout, and its rear row does not have the bulge problem that is often criticized by Volkswagen models, so the ride experience will be more comfortable.

In terms of power, because the Tang DM-i has more motors than the other two rivals, its combined maximum power can reach 262kW, which is the highest among the three.

In terms of cost of use, because BYD is a plug-in hybrid model, the fuel cost is the lowest, with a fuel consumption of only 1.27 L per 100 kilometers, far ahead.

It is undeniable that in terms of daily use cost, space, etc., the Tiguan L Pro does lag behind the Tang DM-i, but as far as intelligent driving is concerned, Volkswagen is covering more everyday scenarios at a lower cost. At present, the Tang DM-i does not support the optional BYD's DiPilot 100 high-end intelligent driving function, and the assisted driving level is only the conventional L2 level, while the Volkswagen of the same level can already provide L2+ level of high-end assisted driving functions.
