The volume of "The Book of Filial Piety" in the Yuan Dynasty, with a size of 21.9x272.8 cm, is now in the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
Guan Sheng (1262 - May 29, 1319), the name Zhongji, was born in the third year of Jingding in the Southern Song Dynasty. She was a famous female calligrapher, painter, and poet writer in the Yuan Dynasty.
In his early years, he began to study calligraphy and painting, and at the same time believed in Buddhism. In 1288, Guan Sheng married Zhao Mengfu, a famous calligrapher and painter of Wuxing in the Yuan Dynasty, and was named the Lady of Wuxing County, and later the Lady of Wei.
Guan Sheng's calligraphy style was influenced by Zhao Mengfu, and he was especially good at small block and line calligraphy. Her works are dignified and luxurious, free and leisurely, and her calligraphy is quiet and handsome, very similar to Zhao Mengfu's font. Later generations praised her works as "Mrs. Guan's book, inch silk paper, people compete for it, and later learn to be a model." ”
The first chapter of the Book of Filial Piety begins with a clear description of the dialogue between Chung Ni and Zengzi, emphasizing the importance of filial piety. Guan Sheng wrote this volume in March of the ninth year of Dade (1305).
Wang Shizhen praised Guan Sheng's calligraphy in the Bazhong, thinking that his calligraphy can be called a master, and this volume is exquisitely written, with the style of Henan calligraphy, and the demeanor is like a beautiful woman, surpassing the superior work.
