The international passenger train of the China-Laos Railway connects Kunming, Xishuangbanna, Luang Prabang, Vientiane and other famous tourist cities, and implements the operation mode of morning and evening, which greatly facilitates international tourists to visit the cultural monuments and natural scenic spots along the line, and it has become a new fashion to travel through Laos and Yunnan, China by bullet train. Beijing, Harbin, Shenyang and other cities in China have adopted the new model of "domestic tourist special train + international passenger train", and have successively organized cross-border tour groups from China and Laos to Laos, further expanding the scope of international passenger trains. Over the past year, the occupancy rate of international passenger trains on the China-Laos Railway has maintained a high level, with the highest occupancy rate reaching 100% in a single day, which has ignited the tourism industry in Xishuangbanna, Luang Prabang and other cities, stimulated new consumption momentum, and promoted people-to-people exchanges and economic and trade cooperation between China and Laos.
The railway, customs, border inspection, and local ports of China and Laos have established a mechanism for regular consultations and joint logistics linkage, carefully organized the operation of international passenger trains, optimized the train operation plan, strengthened the monitoring and control of the whole operation, strengthened safety and security measures, and continuously improved the operation quality of international passenger trains. On July 25, 2023, the train timetable of the China-Laos Railway will be adjusted, the inspection and customs clearance process will be optimized, and the running time of the international passenger train from Kunming South to Vientiane will be reduced from 10 hours and 30 minutes at the beginning of the opening to 9 hours and 26 minutes, which will be reduced by more than 1 hour, and since 2024, the number of cross-border seats for international passenger trains on the China-Laos Railway will be increased from 300 to 350. The number of stops has been increased from 8 to 10 stations in Muang Sai, Laos, and the running time of the whole journey has remained unchanged, further expanding the scope of services.
Launched special service measures to enhance passengers' travel experience. The railway authorities of China and Laos have set up "special windows" for international passengers to purchase tickets at stations along the line, optimize the organization of boarding and landing, and provide non-interference services. According to the cross-border passenger flow, cross-border and non-cross-border carriages can be flexibly set up to meet the needs of different passengers. The train is equipped with language translation equipment to provide convenience for passengers. Strengthen the training of train crews, improve language and business skills, and provide considerate services to passengers. Beverages, bread, grilled sausages and special meals along the line are served on the train, allowing passengers to taste the food of various regions and make their travel experience even better.
According to the person in charge of the International Department of China Railway Group, in the next step, China Railway Group will comprehensively summarize the experience of the first anniversary of the opening and operation of international passenger trains of the China-Laos Railway, pay close attention to the demand for cross-border passenger flow, strengthen cooperation with the Lao railway department, optimize and adjust the international passenger train operation plan in a timely manner, and increase the number of 1 pair of international passenger trains between Xishuangbanna and Luang Prabang, continue to improve the quality of cross-border transportation services, and make new contributions to the benefit of the people of China and Laos and the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Laos.
