On April 13, the High School Affiliated to South China Normal University and the University of Science and Technology of China held a signing ceremony for the joint cultivation base, and held the awarding ceremony of the USTC-Huafu Top-notch Innovation Experimental Class. Huafu has become the first joint cultivation base for top-notch innovative talents in South China.
Since the 2021 academic year, USTC has cooperated to offer a number of school-based elective courses such as "Understanding Astronomy" and "Fundamentals of Earth and Space Science" in Huafu, and a team of teachers composed of doctoral supervisors, returnee scholars, and national outstanding young people take turns to open courses in Huafu every Saturday, which are widely welcomed by Huafu students. These high-quality courses encourage the majority of Huafu students to keep up with the country's talents, strive to make more new discoveries and achievements in the future, maximize scientific output, and make greater contributions to creating a better future for mankind.
Based on the long-term friendly and cooperative relationship with USTC, on April 13, the two universities held the awarding ceremony of the "USTC-South China Normal University Affiliated High School Joint Cultivation Base" and the "University of Science and Technology of China-South China Normal University Affiliated High School Top-notch Innovation Experimental Class", which means that the cooperation between the two universities has explored a new model. Starting from the fall of 2024, Huafu will open the "University of Science and Technology of China-South China Normal University High School Top-notch Innovation Experimental Class" in the first year of the new high school on the SSGKC campus, recruiting 40 students with innovation potential in mathematics and science, relying on the high-quality educational resources of USTC, and actively exploring a new model of joint education between the university and the middle school. Students who enter this class are exempted from the pre-examination when they are admitted to the junior class of USTC.
According to reports, in the past five years, through various channels such as the junior class of USTC, the innovation pilot class, the college entrance examination, and the strong foundation plan, Huafu has sent more than 80 students to USTC at different stages of high school, high school sophomore and senior high school, and is one of the middle schools that provide the most students for USTC in the country.
After entering USTC, the graduates of USTC have performed brilliantly, not only with outstanding results of 30-80 awards per academic year, but also in the selection of the "Guo Moruo Scholarship" of USTC, which is known as the "No. 1 Scholarship in New China". Among the nearly 20,000 undergraduate students of HKUST in the past ten years, Huafu students have won 3% of the Guo Moruo Scholarship with less than 0.7% of the number of students, ranking fourth in the country in terms of the total number of awardees, and setting the only record in the country for seven consecutive years that students have won awards.
