a16z and Forbes have just released this year's AI TOP50 list, with the former focusing on AI consumer applications and the latter focusing on AI companies. Forbes' list is called the AI TOP50, and its statistics are mainly based on the amount of investment, especially the data of Red Shirt Capital, and a16z is a TO50 generative AI consumer network product, and its data is based on traffic.

Forbes' list is a collaboration between Sequoia Capital and Meritech Capital, and the three most valuable companies on the list are OpenAI, Anthropic, and Databricks. OpenAI's ($86 billion) customers include Morgan Stanley and the Icelandic government, while its rival Anthropic ($18.4 billion) is used by Bridgewater and the Boston Consulting Group. Databricks ($43 billion) sells its data analytics and AI deployment software to Shell and the U.S. Postal Service.
In total, the AI 50 companies raised a total of $34.7 billion this year. Nearly a third of that was raised by OpenAI, thanks to Microsoft's investment of about $10 billion. More came from other emerging AI research companies such as Anthropic ($7.7 billion), Cohere ($445 million), and Mistral AI ($528 million).
Insitro raised $643 million in cash for drug research and Figure AI raised $754 million to build humanoid robots. Abridge uses speech recognition and language summaries to automatically provide a record of visits. Notion is disrupting Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, while Perplexity wants to reinvent search engines.
40% of a16z's new list, which ranks companies based on web traffic, is already new to the list compared to last September's last year.
ChatGPT (which has become the 24th most visited website in the world, according to an analysis six months ago) still continues to hold the top spot. In fact, ChatGPT gets nearly 2 billion web visits per month, which is about five times more than the number two on the list (Google's Gemini). Suno has just released their new V3 version and is currently the only AI music company to make the list.
AI companions may seem niche, but this track has become a major use case for generative AI products. Web and mobile data indicate that AI companions are becoming the mainstream of AI product applications. Six months ago, only two AI companion companies made it to the top 50, and now there are eight. Character.AI is firmly in the top five as it was last year.

The competition and development in the field of AI has never been so fierce and rapid, and now new AI models, tools and applications are born almost every week, if not every day, and the shelf life of these two lists is only about half a year.
