In order to spread the culture of the Great Wall, carry forward the spirit of the Great Wall, protect the ecology of the Great Wall, and help the promotion and internationalization of the Great Wall culture, on April 6, 2024, the dialogue between China and the United States over the past century and two generations of Great Wall people and the "son of the Great Wall" Dong Yaohui 40 years of walking the Great Wall in the United States Special Exhibition was held as scheduled at the Miracle Great Wall Cultural Exchange Center in Philadelphia, USA, which is an ancient manor with a history of 300 years, with a long cultural connotation and celebrity stories, and the exhibition lasted for two months.
100 years ago, William Gailuo, a Philadelphia native of the United States who visited the Great Wall, visited the Great Wall on foot for 2,500 kilometers in 1908, and returned to his hometown in 1909 to publish the book "The Great Wall of China", which recorded William Gailuo's Great Wall expedition with 116 photos, which is also an important historical material for the study of the Great Wall now. 40 years ago, on May 4, 1984, a three-person "Huaxiazi" team led by Dong Yaohui set out from his hometown of Laolongtou, Shanhaiguan, to investigate and study the Great Wall on foot, and after thousands of hardships and hardships, they arrived at the Jiayuguan Great Wall, the western end of the Ming Great Wall, on September 24, 1985, completing a feat of Chinese trekking to investigate the Great Wall, which has been recorded in the history of the Great Wall of China. Since then, Dong Yaohui has devoted himself to the protection and research of the Great Wall, campaigning for the Great Wall for 40 years, and is known as the "son of the Great Wall" by the society.
The exhibition is divided into three parts, the first part is Dong Yaohui's personal record of walking and inspecting the Great Wall for 508 days 40 years ago, the second part is the wonderful moments of his 40 years of engagement in the protection, publicity, research and sustainable development of the Great Wall, and the third part is the photos of the Great Wall taken by Dong Yaohui during his investigation and research of the Great Wall, a total of 74 photos, spreading the story of the Great Wall of Dong Yaohui. The event has begun to enter the preparatory stage in the second half of 2023, and all participants are actively preparing for deployment and have made a lot of efforts and contributions to this end.
The chief planner and chief curator of this event is Han Wei, director of the Exchange Department of the International Department of the China Great Wall Society. The participants of the coordination and installation of the special exhibition in the United States included Hou Lifeng, director of the Miracle Great Wall Cultural Exchange Center, Feng Changlong, technical expert, Ms. Hu Xitong, president of Xinqi Miracle (Beijing) Technology and Culture Company, and volunteers included Li Yuxuan, a student from King's University in the United Kingdom, Wan Langjie, a male student from Columbia University, and Mr. Janathan Johnson, a technician from Mexico. The production of the entire exhibition was completed by the team led by Fang Zhiqiang, director of the China Great Wall Culture Research and Communication Center of Yanshan University, and co-sponsored and planned the dialogue exhibition between the two generations of Great Wall people in China and the United States and the "Children of the Great Wall" in conjunction with the Great Wall Cultural Exchange Center of the United States, the New Seven Wonders of the World Foundation, the Great Wall Culture Studio of Dong Yaohui in Beijing, the Doylston Historical Society of the United States, and the Xinqi Miracle (Beijing) Technology and Culture Co., Ltd Dong Yaohui walked the Great Wall 40 years in the United States special exhibition, which was organized by the Miracle Great Wall Cultural Exchange Center in the United States, and co-organized by Dianyi Space Cultural and Creative Industry Group and Shanghai Chengjiao Technology Co., Ltd.
2024 is the Year of the Dragon, and the Great Wall is like a giant dragon lying across the land of China, guarding this fertile land of China. The Great Wall is a symbol of peace and a bond of friendship that welcomes guests from all over the world. As a well-known expert on the Great Wall and a well-known overseas reputation, Mr. Dong Yaohui has been arranged by the central government to accompany foreign heads of state and dignitaries on many occasions to visit the Great Wall. Dong Yaohui accompanied US President Bill Clinton in 1998 and US President George W. Bush on a visit to the Great Wall in 2002, and later accompanied Israeli Prime Minister Olmert, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Moussa, ministers and experts from various countries. President Clinton wrote in the Great Wall guest book: "Thank you for taking me, my family, and my entourage around the Great Wall. The Great Wall is more glorious than we imagined. President Bush wrote in the guest book: "May our people eternal peace and good fortune." ”
Through the Great Wall exhibition, more Americans can understand the Great Wall, know China, understand Chinese culture and Chinese civilization, make friends with China, and establish more exchanges and cooperation. The organizers will also bring this Great Wall exhibition to other states, cities, universities, primary and secondary schools in the United States for touring exhibitions, which is also a more effective and better way and means to spread the Great Wall culture.
