Recently, on the trees of the "Garden of Fire" in Hedong Park, Liuzhou City, from time to time, some furry "small hairballs" have fallen, they sway with the wind, and finally fall on the ground cover, grass, road surface... At first glance, this "small hairball" looks like a caterpillar, plus it will "fly", which really frightens tourists and avoids it, but when you look at it, you will find that it is motionless. It turned out that this was not a flying caterpillar, but a mature seed of the sugar gum tree.
The flowering period of sugar gum tree is from June to November every year, the fruit period is from October to April of the following year, its fruit is linear, slender as noodles, 20 to 57 cm long, clusters of clusters at the end of the branches, initially green, mature and brown and cracked. The seeds are oblong, pale brown, and the ends are covered with reddish-brown long marginal hairs, which are 1.5–2 cm long and spread by the wind.
Gum trees are widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia and South Asia. Because of its beautiful plant shape, it has become an excellent street tree species, the whole plant is rich in milk, can be extracted as a chewing gum raw material, and the roots, skin and leaves can be medicated, can relieve cough, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic, stop bleeding and muscle, treat malaria, tracheitis, whooping cough, asthma, trauma, sores and so on.
