On January 24, 1957, the Science Prize Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences awarded Qian Xuesen the certificate and medal of the first prize of the Science Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for his book "Engineering Cybernetics".

Engineering cybernetics is a new direction of Qian Xuesen's research after 1950, guided by the technical and scientific ideas proposed in 1947, and the emerging cybernetics at that time was applied to the field of engineering. In 1954, Engineering Cybernetics (English edition) was published in the United States. After returning to China in 1955, Qian Xuesen taught engineering cybernetics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the beginning of the following year, disseminating cutting-edge scientific knowledge.

On January 24, 1957, Qian Xuesen won the first prize of the 1956 Science Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for "Engineering Cybernetics" (English version). The award was awarded by the Science Prize Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, including a certificate and a medal, and was the highest award in the field of natural sciences in China at that time. The certificate was issued by Guo Moruo, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the reverse side of the medal was engraved with the words "Science Medal 001 of the Chinese Academy of Sciences".
