On April 12, 2024, Sonus faber is proud to announce the official launch of Suprema, a groundbreaking loudspeaker system rooted in luxury, unrivalled sound quality and exquisite craftsmanship. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Sonus faber brand, the Suprema loudspeaker system with two main column loudspeakers, two subwoofers and an electronic crossover represents the future of the iconic audio brand and its dedication to excellence.
Suprema is undoubtedly the most ambitious design ever created by Sonus faber. Born out of a brand tradition of "relentless pursuit of perfection", Suprema is the epitome of audio excellence, redefining the boundaries of sound immersion. As the first of its kind, it represents the culmination of the brand's 40th anniversary, where exquisite details, exquisite materials and high-quality craftsmanship have allowed the Sprima to go beyond the concept of a sound system.
Aesthetic features
Suprema's four-pillar design is a throwback to the brand's true heritage. The "lute" shape of the two main column loudspeakers is a nod to the seamless integration and virtual soundstage concealment of the first generation of the "Guarneri", while the two subwoofers have the elliptical shape used on the "Stradivari", which allows the two components to carry large sensors and energy shocks.
The various materials used on the Suprema Kunlun not only take into account the individual characteristics of each material but also complement each other, so that their best properties are enhanced – carbon fiber has excellent resistance, wood has good harmonic effect, solid aluminium and CNC machining provide excellent static quality. The unique 3D curved shape of the multi-layered wood applied to the side panels of the main pillar loudspeaker creates the illusion of "wings", reflecting the extreme precision and sophistication of Suprema's Kunlun design.
The Sprema uses the traditional leather front panel of Sonus faber, and taking into account the particularity of the Suprema, the Sprama has collaborated with the world's top leather goods brand Poltrona Frau, and each Supreme audio system is made of authentic Italian leather made by top Italian talented craftsmen, adding its originality to the Suprema Kunlun.
Technical features:
In addition to a sophisticated four-post system consisting of two main column loudspeakers and two subwoofers, the system includes an external electronic crossover. The Supreme Kunlun configuration system is designed to transcend traditional band coverage limitations and take acoustic performance to a new level of excellence.
Each of Suprema's main pillar loudspeakers is a 4/5 system with eight forward transmitters and two reverse transmitters. The construction of the classic "Dominant Sound" midrange and midrange incorporates three innovative elements – a new midrange driver "Camelia" with a cellulose pulp diaphragm, a new finished silk dome mid-tweeter, and a newly finished silk dome tweeter. The materials used are in full line with the "natural materials" tradition of the Prestige, and all electroacoustic components have been completely redesigned.
Developed by a team of electroacoustic engineers, the new Camelia midrange unit is responsible for the most important parts of the sound spectrum to ensure maximum clarity while maintaining the classic "sounds of nature". Inspired by nature, the new diaphragm is neither circular nor covered without any suspension, offering its entire surface to the listener, which avoids the formation of resonances associated with circularity.
The new dual-drive mid-frequency magnetic system ensures control and uniform dynamics, and airflow management is taken care of by the organic bracket. This initial design, which was previously applied to the drivers of the "Stradivari", will be used in all the next generation of Stradivari loudspeakers.
In the combination of Camelia Camelia alto and treble is loaded a unique dedicated internal volume designed to improve the performance of the unit. By utilizing analog technology, the chamber and its inner walls are made from recycled cork and maintain an organic shape – a technology that makes Seba the first company to use natural and sustainable materials to create acoustic volume while improving the clarity and naturalness of midrange performance.
The Supreme uses an individually designed bass system to optimize low-frequency response, allowing for better infrasonic reproduction wherever the main column speaker is heard.
The woofer uses two powerful 38cm sensors with a forged carbon fiber membrane and neodymium magnet motor system to ensure distortion-free sound pressure down to 16Hz.
Controlling the coupling between the speakers and the ground is essential to achieve the purest silence in the musical texture. The decoupling system, developed in collaboration with IsoAcoustics, enables the Sprama to achieve unrivalled dynamic levels and power levels, maintaining energy levels while avoiding the transmission of unwanted vibrations in the listening environment.
Crossover system
Timing and balance: Some of the crossover filters can be seen on the side of the main column loudspeakers, which is the best electroacoustic configuration developed by the SBA R&D team over the past decade.
Through a variety of simulations, tests, and listening iterations, the SBA aims to achieve perfect tonal balance and the most rigorous acoustic phase control, delivering impeccable timing and perfect sound stage performance in all three dimensions.
Leading-edge electronics: Manage the integration between the Suprema mainframe and subwoofer with electronic crossovers, dual mono and full balance, and maximize the versatility of the electrical signal.
All phase cutting and control circuitry is 100% analogue and built with a selection of individual components, while the chassis section embodies the double essence of this piece – the power is enclosed in a sturdy aluminum casing, while the audio signal is protected by an extremely precious lacquered wood casing.
